meanwhile I also downloaded Itunes again directly via the Itunes website (not via Microsoft store). But this does not solve the problem.

Is this within beaTunes? Or does this involve some other application?
Yet it is a good idea.

Yes, this happens in Beatunes. Only Beatunes crashes. iTunes stays open.

Hi Thomas,
I believe this is connected to the Windows Scripting Host.
Does the file
C:\Users\THOMAS~1\AppData\Local\Temp\temp_wsh_script292288587593515989.vbs
still exist on your system and if so can you please send it to me?Thanks,
-hendrik

Yes exists. I've added this one.
Support Staff 6 Posted by hendrik on 27 Apr, 2023 11:44 AM
Odd. It's a binary file, but shouldn't be one.
Thanks. Unfortunately, that's a dead end.
Can you open a command shell and type in
then copy the output and send it to me?
Does
wscript.exe
work at all?Thanks.

Output added.

Wouldn't it be easier to reinstall Beatunes?
Support Staff 9 Posted by hendrik on 27 Apr, 2023 07:16 PM
Well, It seems like wsrcipt works in principal.
I don't think it would change anything.

Beatunes reinstalled, but the problem persists.

Could the problem be my library's structure in the Itunes folder on my computer?
Each song is in a separate folder under the itunes media folder.
see screenshot attached.

Hi Hendrik,
I selected a new 'directery based libary' in Beatunes.
So this appears to work.
Itunes based still not...
is this the first time such a problem has happened?
Gr, Thomas

Hey Thomas,
It should not have anything to do with the directory structure.
Yes, folder-based is expected to work, as it does not execute wscript, which is apparently what fails. The background here is that beaTunes with iTunes mirrors what’s in iTunes. I.e. when you change a playlist in beaTunes, beaTunes attempts to replicate the change in iTunes. It does so via a simple script, which is executed by wscript, the Windows Scripting Host. For some reason this causes a crash on your machine.
This functionality has been in place for years. This is the first time somebody reports that it crashes beaTunes.
The folder-based beaTunes library does not interact with iTunes and therefore does not execute wscript.
Note that all of this only applies to the Windows version.

ok, strange. can an overly strict anti-virus software affect this Windows scripting host? if I create a new playlist in Beatunes, it immediately ends up in iTunes. so the link works partially.

Don't know. 🤷♂️
Yes. wscript is not always used. Most of the communication runs through COM, which apparently works for you.

Just a quick update so this case can be closed. So it is effectively Sophos (anti-virus).
