Several issues with beaTunes5 and MacOS
Hello,
I have several issues since installed BeaTunes 5.2.30 on my Mac M1 Pro running on Ventura 13.0.1 :
- beaTunes5 is slow to use, even when being the only app opened,
- sometimes when reduced/collapsed in the doc, the app cannot be expanded anymore,
- when using the 'Analyse', the app freezes, freezes MacOS, and at some point MacOS reboots.
I use beaTunes interfaced with Music.app. Music.app library folder is on a Synology NAS mounted by default on OS startup before Music.app is launched.
I managed to analyse ~10K songs with several iterations of crashes and reboots.
But now, with my 12K remaining songs, the app keeps freezing.
Also, will there be a native ARM64 beaTunes app to support the new Apple ARM architecture?
Thanks in advance,
Daniel

Hey Daniel,
sorry for the late reply.
Yes. Unfortunately, I aware of this. It depends on a bunch of things...
That should never happen. Is beaTunes doing something in particular when you reduce it?
Again, that should never happen. Can you describe how you "analyze"? How many parallel threads, which analysis tasks etc.?
This kind of setup is bound to be slow due to the network connection and the slow spinning disk (assuming it's not an SSD).
10k is really not a lot. :-/ Usually, beaTunes does this with no problem whatsoever.
Can you please upload your logs? You can do so from within the app via
Help
->Upload Logs
.I am working on it, but cannot promise any dates.
Cheers,
-hendrik

Hi Hendrik,
Sorry for the late reply, I was on vacation, therefore not online al the time.
> That should never happen. Is beaTunes doing something in particular when you reduce it?
Yes it was running the analyse feature whilst I was just trying to do a second task in parallel (web browsing etc) but the process uses so much of the system resources that everything’s slow, barely usable.

Running the analyse feature against my Apple music library. First it was set to 1, but it was taking too long, so I changed to 4 then I saw the unstable behaviour of the system as described in my first email, so I changed once again to 2, but not with much success (uploaded the logs to your sever as requested).

The setup is run on a gigabit network, my NAS runs 2 HDD 7200 rpm disks. I have never had issues with solutions like Plex in terms of slowness.
Thanks for your assistance!
Best regards,
Daniel

Hey Daniel,
thanks for the logs. Unfortunately, they don't reach very far back and I am unable to find any abnormal behavior. Could you please upload another fresh set of logs, right after you encountered a crash or any other substantial difficulties?
Thanks!

Hi Hendrik,
Sorry for the reeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaally late answer. I caught up by life in general and was able only able to test once again your application after updating it to the application to the latest version.
I then launched the Analyze feature, the application went on for several hours, I let my laptop connected to the power and deactivated the screen saver just to make sure the laptop wasn't going to hibernation mode.
Beatunes including Apple Music were the only left opened applications.
The morning after I returned to my laptop and was brought right to the logon view. After logging in, I had a message system alert informing macOS crashed.
It is the same scenario i have been facing since I upgrading my laptop to an Apple M1 Pro chipset. Before, with my MacBook Pro Intel, I never had this issue.

I forgot to mention in my last comment that I also submitted my logs since I tried to use the application again a few weeks ago.
Best regards,
Daniel

Hi there,
Today wanted check duplicates, but the app is almost unusable, it keeps freezing with the spinning cursor.
It would be great this app was compatible with Apple Arm processors and relying on Rosetta only...

Just to let you know I just uploaded again my app's logs, the app froze, it totally crashed my laptop, forcing the OS to restart. And now the on going inspection I was trying to do is gone...
I have to start from zero...

Hey Daniel,
sorry for the really late reply. I'm also caught in some other things and won't be able to really give this the attention it needs for probably another 2 weeks or so. My sincere apologies for this delay.
Please do feel free to post again, if you have any more data. Just know that I probably won't be able to really take care of it right away.
Sorry,
-hendrik

I was wondering if this issue ever got resolved. I would be interested to find out as I'm getting similar freezing issues while trying to run Analysis on a Mac.
I've uploaded my logs to see if that is any help.
I'm using Beat Tunes 5.2.34 on an iMac running Sonoma 14.2.1
Any help you can give me would be really great.
