Song ratings vs Album ratings fiasco

In beatunes 5.2 the ratings column shows unrated songs with star ratings based on grey album ratings. If a song is unrated it should be no stars right? If I sort Music based on the rating column, I see some songs with grey not black stars sorted in with actual rated songs. If I get info on a grey star song, it shows solid black stars, whereas itunes shows no stars.

How can I sort on song ratings? not some combination of album/song ratings?

   sorry for the late reply.

   While I would not quite call it a fiasco, you are definitely making some valid points here.

   1. The Get Info panel should not show album-based ratings for single songs
      
   2. There should be a way to sort by just black ratings (i.e. true song ratings), ignoring the computed ones.

   I will look into this.

   The fiasco is really associated (in my mind) with Apple and all the unpleasant memories from their issue with using album ratings as song ratings.

   But yes, unrated songs showing up with a rating was a surprise to me. It was not something that I wanted,...BUT I can also see there could be some use in using album ratings to help pick songs. For instance if somebody is trying to match songs with a high rating, and there are unrated songs from an album with highly rated songs, it may be useful to have an option to allow the software to suggest album rated songs. These songs would be like tentative suggestions, which the user could examine for inclusion. However, there should definitely be an option to match just the actual song ratings. Maybe a preference switch? Or a switch when choosing to match songs by rating.

   I have found a way to work around this issue. I can use iTunes to create a Smart playlist with the proper song ratings, and then use that as an input source to the matching algorithms.
