1. If you experienced a crash or other abnormal behavior, please attach the log file 'beaTunes-logs-2021-03-08-235316.zip' by dragging it from your desktop onto the 'Attach File' button below.

I bought a new MacBook pro. Imported my iTunes library into the Apple Music app on new MacBook. BeaTunes 3 that I had did not work on new mac so I upgraded to version 5. It launched ok but would not sync with Apple Music. I tried to repair the database, did not work. I tried to rebuild the database and it seems to have erased it. I tried to synch again and still get the synchronization abort error message. Log and screenshot attached.

* beaTunes: 5.2.20

* Vendor: BellSoft
* OS: Mac OS X 10.16, x86_64

    Hey Ricardo,

    apparently beaTunes is presented faulty data and does not handle it gracefully.
    I have made some changes in the latest dev snapshot to take care of it. Could you please download and install it from https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-2-21-SNAPSHOT.dmg Hopefully it fixes the issue.

    Cheers,

    Hi Hendrik,

    This new version works and I now see the database and it is synching and inspecting. Do we know if it built the database anew or if it recovered my previous BeaTunes 3.x library? Does it matter?

    Also, I see the appname has “-SNAPSHOT” in it.

    That depends on whether you ever agreed to rebuilding in the process. It does not really matter, unless you had lots of info in the database that wasn't embedded in the files.

    Yes. As I mentioned, this is a dev snapshot, i.e. not officially released yet. I just wanted to make sure you get going with this.

    Hey,

    It seems that something is wrong with AppleScript on your system.

    Can you run the AppleScript mentioned here in a Terminal window?

    osascript -e 'tell app "Finder" to display dialog "Hello, World!"'

    If you get something like osascript: can't open default scripting component. that means that definitely something with AppleScript is broken on your machine, so that beaTunes cannot use it.

    You may be able to fix this by removing custom audio components.
    You can do so, by

    • moving all files in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components and ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components (~ is your home directory) somewhere else and then
    • try running osascript -e 'tell app "Finder" to display dialog "Hello, World!"'.
    • If it works, you know that one of those components was the culprit.
    • To find out which one, move he components back into the Components folder one by one and run osascript -e 'tell app "Finder" to display dialog "Hello, World!"' after each one.
    • When it's not working anymore, you know which component causes the issue.

    Obviously, if removing the components from the system and user Components folders did not fix the osascript failure ("can't open default scripting component."), then re-adding them one by one does not make sense. You should just move them back to where they belog.

    Hope this helps,

    -hendrik

    P.S.: See also https://github.com/actions/runner-images/issues/4201#issuecomment-1... - there somebody did this and found that FabFilter Pro-C 2.component was the culprit. If you have it installed, perhaps that's the one you should test first.

    Hey hendrik,

    I'm confused on how audio plugins could interfere with a
    synchronization between Itunes and Beatunes... sounds a bit strange.

    But I did as you requested and as I only have one component in
    /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components , it was easy.

    so I took it out and it worked haha

    Thanks for this

    Ha! I can relate...

    Awesome! May I ask what the name of the component was?

    Thanks!

    It was just a plug-in I had had to manually install in the compenant folder
    called RaveGenerator 2
