Adding Songs
Hi Everyone, I am a new user of beaTunes. I currently have over 54,000 tunes, and these have been imported to beTunes. I have added another 10 songs today, but it is taken 2 hours and is just over the halfway mark on the Synchronizing; surely this is not right? Please, can someone help?

Hey there,
could you please upload your logs, so that I can take a closer look? It's easy, just go to
Help
and then selectUpload Logs
(all within the app). Also, please let me know what exactly you did to add 10 songs.
Thanks!

Hi Hendrik,
I have uploaded the logs to you. All my music is on an external hard drive. I created a folder within my House. Section and dropped the new songs into the folder that I created. I then went to Synchronize, and it was taking forever to add these extra tunes

Thanks.
May I ask which kind of file system you use on the G:-drive? Is this NTFS? And is it connected via USB to something similar or is it connected via the network?

Hi Hendrik, File System is NTFS, and the drive is connected to a USB C socket on Laptop.

Thanks.
Apparently beaTunes is reloading every track, which is bad.
Could you please try out the current dev snapshot release from https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-2-20-x64.exe ? I hope it fixes the issue.
To install, please first stop beaTunes (if it is running) and then start the installer.
Thanks!
-hendrik
PS: When using the snapshot, please ignore notification that a newer version of beaTunes is available until the official 5.2.20 is really on the website.

Hi Hendrik,
Thank you for your help. I have installed the above version, and I thought, yes, you have fixed it. But when first running the software and pushing the Synchronizing button, it starts very quickly and slows down to a crawl. I don't know what else to do. How long should it take to update 10 tracks within the software?

Hi,
could you please upload a fresh set of logs, so that I can see what's going on?
Thank you,
-hendrik

Hi Hendrik
I have sent the latest logs.
Support Staff 9 Posted by hendrik on 19 Feb, 2021 12:35 PM
Thank you.
The logs show that the issue is not fixed. Unfortunately, I'm missing some information. I have therefore created a new snapshot build, which does some additional logging. This snapshot will not fix the issue, but hopefully provide the information that lets me fix the issue.
Just FYI: At the moment it looks like all files on your external harddrive have a different last modified date than what beaTunes remembers and stored in its database. That's the reason all files are re-read (to update beaTunes' database with external changes). I assume this is erroneous, but don't have enough data to be sure.
The new snapshot is (also) at https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-2-20-x64.exe
Again, please shut down beaTunes before installing. Once the new snapshot synced for a while, please upload a fresh set of logs again.
Thanks so much! I hope I get to the bottom of this quickly. I understand how annoying this is for you.
Cheers,
-hendrik

Any news?

Thanks, for the logs.
I didn't have time to look into them until just now and it seems like you haven't tried to synchronize with the latest snapshot yet. Could you please start the snapshot again, and synchronize using
File
->Synchronize
and then, at some point upload a fresh set of logs?Thank you,
-hendrik

Hey,
after initially importing your music files with beaTunes, I suppose you've analyzed them using beaTunes, right?
After that analysis, did you process your files with any other programs?
For example,
G:\DJ Music\Monoside\44 - Angelo Ferreri - Free (Original Mix).flac
seems to have been modified on Feb 19th, while beaTunes believes the most recent last modification date it has seen on that file was from Feb 15th.Thanks,
-hendrik

Hi Hendrik,
Yes I have analysed all the files using beaTunes it took a couple of days. No I am not using any other programs to process my files. I am using Virtual DJ and sometimes I use that to change tags or correct mistakes. I have only had beaTunes for a few days.
Support Staff 19 Posted by hendrik on 21 Feb, 2021 12:01 PM
Hey there,
I believe I have figured out what's going wrong.
Because of a bug in beaTunes, the new last modification (LM) date is not stored after analysis. This is why beaTunes assumes an external change (the file's LM date is later than what beaTunes believes it should be) and parses the file. This happens only once after analysis, but with an external (spinning disk?) drive and a large library this may be excruciatingly slow—especially considering that no actual work is done.
Fixing this is a two step process:
Given that you have already analyzed the bulk of your tracks and this issue only is a problem for just analyzed tracks (if there are many of them), 1. is much more important for you. I have therefore created a little beaTlet for you that adjust the dates.
Please unzip the attached file and then install the beaTlet. Note that it has to have the file extension
.groovy
—otherwise it will not be recognized. Then start beaTunes (or restart, if it's running) and go toTools
->Adjust Last Modification Date
. You will be asked, whether you are certain (you are!) and then beaTunes will adjust all the wrong LM dates. After the process has finished, please try to synchronize again. It should be much faster. I have tested this locally, but of course am curious how well this works for you. Please let me know.Regarding the bug in beaTunes that caused this. I am working on it and it will be part of the official 5.2.20 release when that's out.
Thank you for your patience and hopefully this solves the issue.
Have a great Sunday,
-hendrik

Hi Hendrik,
Thank you for looking into this for me. I am trying to locate the Plugins directory within beaTunes but cannot find it. Using this c:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\tagtraum industries\beaTunes\plugins
I have located where it is installed I see a few folders but not a plugin directory I’m running Windows 10 Pro
Support Staff 21 Posted by hendrik on 21 Feb, 2021 02:10 PM
If it is not there, please simply create it.
Support Staff 22 Posted by hendrik on 21 Feb, 2021 06:03 PM
Did you succeed to install the beaTlet, adjust the timestamps and get synchronize to run faster?

Hi Hendrik,
Yes I managed to create a Plugins folder and put the file inside that. But I did not have to run it so not sure if its working but yes everything seems a lot quicker adding new tracks now only takes a couple of minutes
Support Staff 24 Posted by hendrik on 21 Feb, 2021 07:38 PM
Then, I guess, synchronization once worked through all your files again and the last modification timestamps are already in sync.
