Copy key
Hi Support
* beaTunes: 5.2.7
* JVM: OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM
* Version: 11.0.6+10-LTS
* Vendor: BellSoft
* OS: Mac OS X 10.15.4, x86_64
* Library: FileSystem

I have used beaTunes for a long while but for the first time I have a problem. I add songs to the Music app on my iMac and then run synchronization. But the key is no longer added to the Grouping column in Music (although it shows up correctly in beaTunes). Apart from manually copying the key in beaTunes and pasting in to Music what can I do?

beaTunes has never written the key to the grouping field unless you have used some plugin. Was the plugin perhaps not activated?

iTunes/Apple did some weird switching a while back, where grouping and work fields were changed. Is it possible the value you are looking for is now in work?
Also, I noticed that you are using a folder-based library. Is this for a particular reason? Typically, when also using iTunes/Music, an iTunes/Music-based library works much better, because there is a much tighter integration.

Hi Hendrik
Thanks for your most recent email. The key/grouping problem has only
arisen in the past week and I do not think either beaTunes or
iTunes/Music has been modified. That is why it is something of a mystery.
Also, I am confused about a folder-based library. If I am using this
method it is not purposely. Is there a link you can send me to
understand the situation? Thanks for your understanding.

Any chance you recently upgraded to macOS 10.15 and that at that point it started happening?

Hi Hendrik
No, but I did upgrade a while ago. I attach a screen shot to show you
the problem. Up until last week I loaded the songs into Music and then
ran beaTunes which gave me the key. I then synched the two and the key
showed up in grouping in Music as you can see from the screenshot.
Well, it did until three weeks ago ...
Thanks for your help.

When you play one of those songs with the missing grouping field in Music, does the missing value show up?

Hi Hendrik
No, it does not.

The reason I ask this is, that with a file system based library, Music has not way of knowing that something has changed, but typically imports changes when you play a song.
When you open the Music Get Info dialog, you should be able to see the "Work" name (you might have to change to Work/Movement etc. view by clicking on "Song <>"). Is the value perhaps there?

Hi Hendrik
You are absolutely right! I get info when I swap the title box for the
work name the key shows up. What do I do now?
What a star you are.

Ha!
That's exactly what I meant with
in my earlier message.
You should switch to using a Music-based library. To do so, open the
File
menu, chooseNew library
and chooseMusic-based
. After you have created the new library, make sure that you have embedding turned on. That's an option in the beaTunes general preferences.Then re-run the plugin on the desired tracks.
Note that you may have to allow beaTunes to remote control the Music.app via AppleScript (there might be a dialog that pops up). This is necessary to communicate the new values.
Hope this helps,
