BTunes 5.2.0 install fail (Win10)
Hi!
Tried to install Beatunes 5.2.0 on a new PC today. Got:
A fatal error occurred during initialization: java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError.
OS is Win 10 1903. Build 18362.295
iTunes is the version on Microsoft Store.
Hope it's enough to find the bug.
cheers,
Mark

Hey Mark,
thanks for reporting the issue and sending logs. The problem is caused by beaTunes incorrectly handling your very high resolution display. I believe I have fixed it enough to start, but am uncertain about what it looks like.
Could you please download and install the latest snapshot from https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-2-0-SNAPSHOT-x64.exe and send a screenshot? Does it look "normal" to you or are there scaling issues?
Thank you!
-hendrik
PS: Some users have reported problems with iTunes from the Microsoft store, because it does not allow COM automation, which beaTunes relies on. If you see such errors (failures to communicate with iTunes), please re-install iTunes from the Apple website.

Hi Hendrik!
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, Windows and highDPI screens still don't play nice all the time. I installed the latest snapshot (the one you linked to above) and immediately after installation BeaTunes stopped as it tried to open. The BeaTunes splash screen displayed (quite small but legible) but then the same error window opened, with the same contents as before. I've attached the latest log files.

Apologies—it looks like I made a dumb programming mistake. If you want to give it another shot, please try https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-2-0-SNAPSHOT-x64.exe (same URL, different file).

Voila! It works! Syncing the XML file from iTunes as I type. Thank you!
kind regards,
Mark

Great!
What does it look like? Can you please send a screenshot?
Thanks!

Mostly OK. The scroll bars are unusually large (perhaps intentional from Windows for touch screens??). The analysis was ongoing when I captured this and you can see the oval spot which normally would show the number of items remaining - but it is possibly white text on a light grey background and therefore unreadable. Same for messages in the Analysis tab.

Well, there are definitely a couple of things wrong.
What does it look like, when you switch windows to the light-look&feel? (requires beaTunes restart) Are the scrollbars and toolbar buttons reasonably sized?

Sorry, I couldn't work out how to change to "light look&feel". It's not mentioned in the Help file :)
However, the View menu is quite scrambled and the Preferences window is oddly scaled. Both attached.

Sorry - wrong shot for preferences... Trying again.

That's because it's not a beaTunes setting, but a Windows setting. See https://blog.beatunes.com/2018/10/beatunes-on-mojave-and-windows-10... (somewhere in the middle of that article).

Ah! It's been a while since I went dark I'd forgotten about that...
Yep, it looks "normal". See the shot.

And the preferences are OK.
Support Staff 13 Posted by hendrik on 19 Aug, 2019 03:20 PM
Yep. It's pretty hidden.
Thanks a lot for checking!

Just an FYI. I will be going back to dark. This install of BeaTunes is not "mission critical" for me and I'd rather keep the interface I prefer across all of Windows and accept some short-term (?) problems with this particular app. I have a more critical install on another PC and it doesn't have a hiDPI screen.
Thanks for the fast feedback!
cheers,
Mark

The dark mode is rendered by a third party library and I will have to check how and whether it can be fixed for hi res screens. It's a todo.
Hopefully that renders correctly.
