I downloaded the trial because your software sounds very interesting but I have run into problems immediately. Whenever I try analyze a song to obtains its key or BPM the software hangs and eventually stops responding to the OS. I've yet to get it to work.

I'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and I've got the latest JAVA install.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

    Hi!

Thanks for your mail. I doubt that you do anything wrong. Could you
please send me your logs - that way maybe I get a better idea of
what's going wrong. The logs are in ~/Library/Logs/beaTunes - please
simply zip the whole folder before sending it.

    Thanks!

    Hi Matt,

This sounds like a threading problem.
Could you please try the following:

    • start beaTunes
    • start analysis for BPM or key
    • make sure beaTunes hangs
    • open a Terminal.app window
    • type in jps
    • make note of beaTunes' number
    • type in jstack THENUMBER - with THENUMBER replaced with the jps number
    • send me the output of the jstack command

    Thank you,

    -hendrik

Hi Hendrik. I opened up terminal and typed jps. Can I presume the returned number is for beatunes as it makes no reference to it. Anyway it returned 227 so I stuck that with jstack and the result was pretty long. I'll post it anyway. I hope it's the right thing.

    Hi Matt,

thanks for the stack trace - that was exactly the thing I was looking for.
I think the problem is solved in beaTunes 2.1.
Can you please try out http://www.beatunes.com/news/2009/12/ea6-for-beatunes-21.html and let me know, whether it solves the issue?

    Thanks,

Hi Hendrik. Works perfectly now. Thanks. Will I be able to buy a key for this version? Thanks for the help

    Hi Matt,

I am working on the final 2.1 release right now - it should be out later today.
If you already have a 2.0 key it will continue to work (for all 2.x versions). If not, you can buy one on the website.

But: If I was you, I would stick with the EA version until it stops working. It is unlimited in functionality without the need for a key. Once you install the real 2.1 version, you cannot commit inspection solutions unless you have a key.
