EA4 Installation - Updating DB Failed

EA4 Installation: Screenie 4 happens every boot.
beaTunes EA4 continues to load, but slowly
Screenie 06 is all I get, after that, half unpainted main window, and only mouseover will show me text.
Exit is very quick, as though there is no data loaded into beaTunes, which is what the error from Screenie 4 is telling me at least.
There seems to be no logfiles written in ~/.beatunes/ at all in the whole process of opening and closing this failed EA4 process.
I'm going to backup my .beaTunes directory and try it without a DB.

OK, so its' not just EA4, it's any EA installation over an old or brand new 2.0.18 installation/database.
Upon installing the EAx each time, it fails requiring the iTunes.exe /regserver error dialog. So whether I wait for that error message, or preempt it and run from an Administrative Command Prompt... hmmm, I'll try running it from a non-admin command prompt..... nope, no change.

    iTunes version 9.0.2.25
    Windows 7

    Hi Tim,

    Thanks for your feedback.
Could you please delete the folder

    C:\Users\AppData\Local\tagtraum industries

re-install the latest EA and try again? Does it make any difference?
If not, could you please send me your logs? They are in C:\Users\AppData\Local\tagtraum industries\beaTunes\logs

    Thanks!

    Evening,
Rightio, having deleted the suggested directory at
'C:\Users\AppData\Local\tagtraum industries' Its Updating the DB again (see
    screenie08)
For each "reinstall" of an EA that I thought I was doing... it didn't try
and Update the Database like this, so I suppose I screwed up letting it
update the first time. (iTunes crashed last time from memory.)
I expect this to take a long long while, instead of a long while.

    Failed again...
    ... included are my logs.

I came back to my computer after say 25-30 minutes, and the same "schema is
13, not 15" error as earlier screenies show.
Synch Database in-beatunes takes longer than before, but cuts out.
Painting of the screen is screwy as.
The list of things I have waiting to be analysed is there from 2018,
pre-EA4-reinstall, all 17,000 since I know they had been beatuned so I'm
hitting them all up for the embedded info.

    Hi Tim,

thanks for the logs. Unfortunately, because beaTunes was left running for a while after the schema migration failed, the logs only contain meaningless error messages (they are rolling logs, meaning, old stuff gets thrown away after a while).

If you have a chance to delete the 'C:\Users\AppData\Local\tagtraum industries' folder again, restart the EA version, stop it right after the migration failed and send me the logs again, I would probably be able to see what's wrong.

Thanks so much for helping improving beaTunes!

    Got it.
Alright, so there is a chronology here, but the logs that I zipped while the error messages were on the screen were untainted with the thousands of errors that occurred once the main window started painting.

So "really new" install of EA4, iTunes is running still tuning away, leave the normal conditions of "run beaTunes when installer finishes" and "read readme" checkboxes checked. Then beaTunes starts, takes it sweet time, but eventually gets to the dialog stating that I have to run iTunes.exe /regserver, <logs200911221005> so I go do that from a normal-access-level command prompt.
So it starts updating the DB on the next run of EA4 after that regserver thing. so I take a log zip: <logs200911221011>
After 10 minutes, its still updating, take another log zip, the logfile doesn't seem to ahve overflowed yet, so it'll just be a bit more on the last I suppose: <logs200911221024>
My attention starts to wane at this stage, so I wander off and do something. I think I found Windows Media Centre so I started that looking for my music and movie folders. Alt-Tab out of that full-screen app and see the messages, I think, bummer, missed getting the log, but no, its' there. the logfile has the schema whinge at the end of it, so I hope it helps: <logs200911221036>
So I tried to get a zip of the logs just after I accepted the errors, there's a little bit of playlist loading there. <logs200911221039a>
Then by the next one the window had painted and I hit the close button in the top right... took a zip... the timestamp from the first to the last are like 10milliseconds in the .log file, I didn't look at the .2, .3, .4 or .5 files.

    Hope you see somethign interesting.

    Tim!

Thanks so much! The mighthavebeentoolate-log contained the relevant error message.

In order to save some disk space, I'm trying to change the database schema from fairly generous datatypes to more concise ones. E.g. trackCount from regular integer to smallint. Now for some reason you seem to have a value in your database that is out of the numeric range of a smallint and that's causing the schema update to fail. This too high (or too low) value is quite surprising for a trackCount.

Could you please check in iTunes what's the highest trackCount in your collection (just sort by Track #)? Just in case you are not familiar with the term: trackcount is the number of tracks in an album.

If there is no extraordinarily high number to be seen.. could you please send me your C:\Users\tleech\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music Library.xml-file (zipped!)?

    Thanks,

    Hey,
So there were 231 tracks with a tracknumber value of 65400 to 65535.
(duplicates of some numbers) they seem all to be coded values of volume,
disk, side, track number ... something like that anyhow. I deleted the
values, and will work out what compilation they're from later on.
BUT I have a top 2000 tracks collection so there is a trackvalue of up to
    two-thousand.
I could move the values from the track column to the comments fields
using Jaikoz if I must, what's the maximum allowable value under "smallint"?

    Hi Tim,

    that explains the issue.

Smallints are -32768 to 32767 - more than enough, I thought, to encode valid tracknumbers and trackcounts.
