[beaTunes-support] MusicIP / MusicDNS support

Hello Hendrik,

First, I have a small suggestion for beaTunes. I recently used the
MusicIP option to correct the track name and artist for some CDs that
were incorrectly tagged when I ripped them. I was delighted to see
that the MusicDNS / MusicIP function work very well. However, may I
suggest that you include an option for the data that should be
imported?

In my case, I had everything (title, artist, album, track #), but I
wanted to correct only the title and artist, leaving everything else
intact. MusicIP, however, replaced all info with the data from the
artist's original album, and as I was correcting a compilation, I had
to manually correct album name, year and track numbers. While that
tags are updated, the tracks can vanish from the current search
results, and it can become tricky to set the data to the original
values. It would be a great help if there was an option to select the
fields from MusicIP that should be imported, instead of importing
everything, or just the missing fields. Deleting the fields is not an
option, as there might be no data in MusicDNS, and then I'll end up
with no info at all for the track.

Second, where is this PUID data stored? Is the info shared with the
iTunes MusicIP MyDJ plugin, so that PUIDs retrieved with beaTunes are
shared with the plugin, and vice-versa (avoiding unnecessary
reprocessing of tracks) or does each product have its own database?

Kind regards,
Ulrich

    Hi Ulrich,

I will implement something like you suggest in beaTunes 2.1 - you are not the first to voice this wish :-)

The PUID is stored in the internal beaTunes database, but can also be embedded into the audio files themselves, if you check the option "embed non-iTunes fields" in the beaTunes general prefs. Other programs should then be able to pick up the PUID.

    Hope this helps,

PS: Do you mind, if I make this public on http://beatunes.tenderapp.com/discussions ?

    I'll be posting previews at:

    http://www.beatunes.com/news/labels/Early%20Access.html

EA2 will have the selective MusicIP import feature.
