Trouble with beaTunes / Java

Hello,

I had Java 1.5 running on my computer without any problems, but your
product requires 1.6.0_12, so I updated, first to the most latest
release, then uninstalled and got update 12.

I can't seem to get this version running to test your product, please
see how it shows. I have a double-monitor system, but this shouldn't
be the cause of this.

I have recent video drivers (version 190) for my video card (GeForce
6200), so this shouldn't be the reason why I see only garbage.

Do you have any hint about how to fix this?

I tried both versions - with local Java JRE, and with "normal"
installation of the JRE, with the same result.

Kind regards,
    Ulrich Peters

    Hi Ulrich,

this is most certainly a problem between Windows, your graphics
    adapter and Java.

The first thing I'd try it update to the latest Nvidia driver for this
    graphics adapter.
    It's 190.62.

If this does not make a difference, please try the following:

    In C:\Program File\tagtraum industries\beaTunes-2.0.16\ (or a
subdirectory) is a file called beaTunes2.l4j.ini and a file called
    beaTunes2.l4j.ini.template

Open _both_ files with an editor (like notepad) and add this line:

    -Dswing.bufferPerWindow=false
    (followed by a newline)

Save both files and start beaTunes. Does it work?
If not, please stop beaTunes, then remove that line again from both
files and add the following line:

    -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true

Again, save both files and start beaTunes. Does it work?
If not, please stop beaTunes, then remove that line again from both
files and add the following line:

    -Dsun.java2d.opengl=true

Please let me know, if any of the options work.

    Thanks,

    -hendrik

    Hello Hendrik,

thank you very much for your reply. Yesterday I already updated the
video driver to build 62, but it didn't help. I was able to see your
    product with the option

    -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true

Then, I removed that line again, and saw that

    -Dsun.java2d.opengl=true

does fix the issue as well. Can I use the product normally with these
options, or do you expect that something will not work? Do you know
which option would be preferred, performance wise, or with less
    implications?

    Kind regards,
    Ulrich

    Hi,

Well, I am glad that worked :-)

noddraw probably leads to not so great (display) performance. opengl probably makes things fast, but some things might not be displayed exactly as designed.

I'd go with opengl until I realize something is odd, then fall back to noddraw.
Thanks for letting me know, that either of them worked.
