I have run inspection and it finds a number of same album, different release year.

I have tried using both backspace and also selecting the radio button for "ignore in future" but they keep coming back. I have committed all changes each time - what am i doing wrong?

if you experienced a crash or other abnormal behavior, you might want to attach log files from C:\Users\conroy\AppData\Local\tagtraum industries\beaTunes\logs

    Hi

Version of beaTunes is 3.0.2, Itunes is 10.0.4.80, operating system is Windows 7 home premium 64 bit with service pack 1.

I don't understand about "with or without itunes"? I am using beatunes to tidy up (hopefully) itunes on my pc. I don’t know of any other way to "use" beatunes??

    Regards

    Conroy

    Hi Conroy,

you can run beaTunes 3 with or without iTunes. When you run it without, it simply operates on folders of music instead the iTunes library. To create a new library, use the General Preferences tab in the beaTunes preferences.

That aside, I doubt that you are doing anything wrong. Unfortunately, the log you sent only shows part of the picture. Can you please zip the entire logs folder and send it to me? That way I get to see more of what has been going on.

    Thanks,

    -hendrik

    Thank you for your reply.

I have zipped the logs (attached)

I think I must be running beatunes with itunes because if I ONLY load beatunes then itunes is loaded BEFORE beatunes exits its splashscreen. Beatunes then says "synchronising with music library" (this takes some time - possibly because I have 60,000+ tunes?) It then asks if I want to analyse new songs (I normally say yes) and then to inspect - which again I say yes to.

    Regards

    Hi Conroy,

thanks for the zip file - unfortunately it does not contain the entire logs folder. To zip the entire folder, just navigate to it (not into it) with Explorer, right-click on the folder name and select "Send To", then "Compressed Folder". That will create a zipped version of the logs folder.

    Thank you.

    No problem.
I can't find any problem in the logs.

One condition under which this issue can come back is, when you modify the Artist or Album name or any of the Release Years of the album in question. Then beaTunes assumes it's a different album and presents the issue again.

    Hope this helps,

I think it must be the release years. It seems to be "greatest hits" etc where there are (correctly) different track years. But what I am doing is not modifying the years, but telling it to ignore this album?

If I was you, I'd mark that album as a compilation and then it would be ignored by that inspection anyway.

If you'd like me to dig deeper, please give me a concrete example (Artist, Album, Years) and send me the file C:\Users\conroy\AppData\Local\tagtraum industries\beaTunes\ignoredIssues.xml. If you're really interested, you can actually open that file yourself with Notepad or any other simple editor and look for com.tagtraum.beatunes.inspection.MultiYearAlbum.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the advice, I'll try it. I do prefer to keep compilations as multi-artist rather than a single artist, but I'll try a few.

I tried your suggestion on a few and after committing and re-inspecting - these albums now are reported as "compilation with only one artist"

I fear that I may be going round in circles with this

Well, those were probably not mentioned in the "same album, different release year" inspection, were they? As that wouldn't make sense with albums that contain only one song...
