"The JavaVM ran out of memory, please report to BeaTunes."
Done.
Analyzing a large (500+Gb) library. Or trying to.
Cheers,
Tim

Oops, I mean 370Gb library. Early. Must drink coffee.

The size actually doesn't matter, as beaTunes never loads all those songs into memory.
But:
How many songs?
What is Preferences - Analysis - Parallel Tasks set to?
You might want to reduce it, if the error happens again.
Thanks,

Library has 24,135 tracks.
OS 10.6.6, BeaTunes 2.1.16.
I was running on 6 of 8 cores, but BeaTunes was the only active user process when it hung.
Cheers.

"Fatal error: the Java VM ran out of memory. Please contact BeaTunes support and mention this message."
That was after a system reboot and restarting the program to finish analysis. Going to try dropping to 4 cores and see if it can complete library analysis.

If that does not work, we'll need to increase the heap size...

It hung again, with 4 cores running, without a dialog. But after restarting the app, it now seems to be finishing up without complaining. There are some very large "tracks" in my library - aiff's of radio content - it may have been hitting the wall with those tracks, as they seemed to be in and around the current que when the memory errors started happening. Cheers.

Ooh- that's a good hint.. Which analysis tasks do you have enabled? Detect Silence?

Just about everything except detect silence. I'm doing a full cleanup of the library in anticipation of making a backup copy.
Support Staff 9 Posted by hendrik on 18 Jan, 2011 09:49 PM
Well, it's a good idea to keep Detect Silence turned off, when running into memory issues.

Did it work better with just 4 parallel tasks?

By the time I had set it to 4 tasks, I had just under 1000 tracks left to analyze and I didn't have any problems. I am going to try to turn it loose on the entire library again later tonight and re-analyze everything to see what happens. I'll let you know if it hangs again. Cheers.
