Multi item boxes / sync
This comment was split from the discussion: Ultimate Matchlist settings
Hi Hendrik
I must admit, this is beyond my general understanding :-D (not so good at maths)
My takeaway is that value "0" for certain filters like Popularity and Similar Artist yields the same results as simply not including them in a Matchlist ruleset.
I have two more questions:
-
I just bought a new MacBook Pro and I migrated my old MBP to the new one. I'm happy to see beaTunes running a lot smoother than before, although syncing with my music library still takes an awful lot of time (probably because my music files are on an external hard drive). I'm running beaTunes version 5.2.26 on macOs Monterey 12.3.1. Is there anything I should know or do or download or update, so that beaTunes works even better/smoother?

When selecting multiple songs and going to the info section, there's a tickable box on either side of the star rating. What do these boxes do?
Please, see attached screenshots.
Thanks
Alexander

Hey Alexander,
I took the liberty to fork this discussion, because your questions don't have any connection anymore to the original topic (happens!).
This is probably, because your new machine/ssd is much faster!! :-)
The speed of synchronization with the Music.app does not depend so much on your SSD/HDD speed, but more on the Music.app itself.
Does it sync fast up to about 90%? If so, it's waiting for Music.app to deliver some additional info that is not accessible via a fast API, but only via AppleScript, which is relatively slow.
Sync less often. beaTunes tries really hard to stay in sync with Music without explicitly synchronizing. Only when you change something in Music.app that you want to have appear in beaTunes, synchronization is really needed. Also, you might want to turn off automatic synchronization (in beaTunes general preferences).
You can edit all selected songs in one go. To do so, you typically check the box of the field you want to edit and then enter something.
In this case it's simply the rating and the like/dislike fields that you can edit for all selected files (in one go).
Hope this helps,
-hendrik

Hi Hendrik
Thanks once again for your clear answers. Now those tickable boxes make
sense to me :-D
Indeed, my automatic sync option is off and I usually only sync when
beaTunes tells me I haven't synced in the past 7 days or when I've added
new music to iTunes.
I will make sure my new questions have new topics ;-)
Thanks
Alexander
