<p>iTunSMPB and ITUNPGAP are used for storing these informations when iTunes does the ripping from CD by itself.</p>

As you state correctly, iTunes is already writing the info to the mp3 files... why would I still want to copy it to another mp3/id3 tag?</p>

<p>yes, but only when iTunes does the encoding rom CD by itself. If iTunes is importing already encoded files from hdd, these values are calculated while importing and stored outside the mp3 files.</p>
<p>Test for yourself: import a large collection of mp3 files in iTunes and you will see iTunes spending several minutes determining the gapless playback informations. If you erase these files from iTunes and import them a second time iTunes will do the calucation a second time.</p>

At the moment the ReplayGain values are not used very intelligent. Gapless albums should use the Abum value instead of the Track value and that decision should also be propagated to iTunNORM. Well, that would solve common loudness jumps. The perfect way would be, that beaTunes detects "connected" songs (and not only complete albums) and treat them as a single song. I have some albums where only some tracks are gapless eg. when a guitar riff fades out and goes into the next track.</p></div>Tekl
