do they have this documented somewhere?

But, I'd bet that if you email them, they may even share. Always helpful and attentive support from Jason C and crew at Fidelity. :)

jorntag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/36270062010-11-05T11:35:20Z2010-11-05T11:35:20ZRead/Write Megaseg tags

I contacted them... we'll see what they have to say.

Jason answered and basically said that Megaseg adheres to the standards and that it does not do anything out of the ordinary (and that should be covered by beaTunes)

What specifically where you looking for?

-hendrik

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/36270062010-12-04T15:24:05Z2010-12-04T15:24:05ZRead/Write Megaseg tags

(Apologies for the deal...)

Well, for one, MS appears to write its own data for BPM
somewhere else. While it will happily accept BPM tags upon initial
import, I'd love to let beaTunes rewrite those tags for files in
MegaSeg's library.

Also, I don't think Megaseg writes the ever-precious category
tags to anyplace standard, if it writes them to the files at
all.

If me throwing a MS tagged file at you helps at all, let me
know.

I really appreciate you looking at this! :)

jorntag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/36270062010-12-05T23:08:22Z2010-12-05T23:08:22ZRead/Write Megaseg tags

They do keep their data also in the HFS+ resource fork - but
that shouldn't be a problem.

I contacted Jason to ask about the category tags.

-hendrik

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/36270062010-12-06T09:28:54Z2010-12-06T09:28:54ZRead/Write Megaseg tags

Jason answered (super quickly):

MegaSeg's Category = Genre... But non-exclusively. On import, by
default, we map Genre tags to our category tags. The user can then
optionally modify the category, which can be any number of tags
separated by slashes (cat1/cat2/cat3) or (disco/punk/country).
These are then saved back to the file in our resource fork tagging
system. But those are only for backup or re-import purposes (i.e.
not live data).

I'm sorry, I'd consider writing an import routine, if this stuff
was in standard tags. But beaTunes will definitely not fool around
with the resource fork.
