matching tracks on it's parts (instead on it's whole caracteristic)

I've still been using beatunes while dj-ing, the way I described it once. And it does help me narrow down the list of songs quickly. Having 'key' and 'bpm' as the main filters.

Sometimes I wish it would still be smarter ;). I'm a bit too late with this idea now for version 5 ... but while dj ing, the key of the song as a whole is maybe less important than the key at the beginning or end of a song. For instance, some of my songs have a small intro, typically they start and end with quite a distinct overall key. You're pretty much INTO the main element of the song right away. Other songs start and end pretty minimalistically and carefully expand on their 'storyline', thus are the easy songs that could be mixed pretty much anyware. So you could mix in key, but if you'd want to change key, you need one of those simple songs that start with a bass and a kick and after mixing it in, it will show it's true melody/key. That's a cool surprise element in a mix. Moreover those difficult songs might have a list of matching songs, but they are very very hard to mix into the dynamicallity of the hard song. Thus another reason to have a simple one as the next song. But at this point this list of 'simple' tracks are just not popping up in the maching result because they might have a different key or bpm. And that is yet another feature that could kick ass? Generally, probably I guess, there's a way to tell if a part of a track can be mixed with another part of another track. And not the track as a whole. You could only take into account start and end of tracks, that would probably be easier to represent into the gui. Of course nobody stops Hendrik ;).

You're describing something that could definitely be done and is desirable. However, at this point in the dev cycle, it's impossible.

Unfortunately, all I can say, is maybe next time around...

    You're funny!

How feasible is this feature, right ... . How hard is it to have know if
segments between tracks match, given a certain match set. Key would be
easy, I'm guessing you know easily the key of each segment. But
color/timbre is also needed for comparison when key is kinda absent. But I
guess in the end it's up to the selected match set and the parameters

The performance will be tricky since you have no longer one
key/color/timbre but per segment several combinations are possible.

I was also wondering this morning how to represent this. When you're mixing
you kinda want to see in a new column, which parts of the selected track in
a playlist matches with which parts of the matching tracks below. But
there's only little information in the table to add yet another column with
that information. So I'm rather thinking to put this information in a new
horizontal view between the playlist and the matching songs list. With 2
rows, that looks similar to the segments view when playing a track. With
the actual segments line higher in pixel so it can hold numbers
(a,b,c,d,e). With the selected track in the playlist fully numbered with
all letters. And the matching song should then have those same letters
wherever they match. So the user can then see, segment 'b' of the first row
will match with segment 'b' on the second row, based on the selected match
set. And it could have the same colors and determined in the analysis. Hmm
and what if several segments match with other segments grmbl.
