like the subject says, i would like suggest you to warn users when
they delete songs from the beatunes library THAT THEY ARE DELETED
FROM THE DIRECTORY THEY COME FROM and not just from the
program.

Especially on OSX, since you can't put multiple files back into
the folders they came from, we would be left with no other choice
than putting back one by one or by putting all the track in one
file and start sorting again.

So yeah, i guess you would be saving your users a lot of time by
telling them that deleting tracks from beatunes deletes them from
the computer.

concerned usertag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/373093552015-07-08T11:39:07Z2015-07-08T11:39:07Zbeatunes deletes library and mac isn't able to put back more than 1 file at a time

Hey,

actually, beaTunes does tell the user that the file is deleted,
when the user attempts to delete it from a master playlist
(*Music*).

If you can reproduce a situation in which beaTunes does not show
the attached message, please let me know how you did it. Users
certainly need to be warned before beaTunes deletes stuff.

Thanks,

This is a major concern and should be adressed. I bought

Please explain, as I think I'm missing something.

The current behavior is:

You select a file from the library, i.e. not a user
created playlist

You choose to delete the track

beaTunes ask you, whether you really want to do so, making you
aware that you will delete the corresponding file

You make your choice

Which part of this is problematic?

Thank you,

music folder on my computer. Is this the case? If not I will start
to use it again because I like Beatunes.

Thank you,

That is correct.
Just don't do it.

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/373093552016-08-05T23:28:35Z2016-08-05T23:28:38Zbeatunes deletes library and mac isn't able to put back more than 1 file at a time

Well I just wasted my money because the first time I launched
Beatunes it grabbed all the music on my computer which includes a
lot of style of music irrelevant with what I want to achieve with
Beatunes.
Why did you build your software that way? It's not the case with
Rekordbox, Itunes, Flow, Mixvibes , virtual DJ and all.
If I delete Beatunes and reinstall it, what will happen?
Thank you for your time

Erwan Heberttag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/373093552016-08-07T14:39:17Z2016-08-07T14:39:17Zbeatunes deletes library and mac isn't able to put back more than 1 file at a time

It actually does not grab all music—it only imports those
audio files that reside below the base directory that you
specify.

Why did you build your software that way?

This style of library does allow super-easy import, simply by
moving a file into one of those sub-directories of the base
directory. Or by removing a file from the directory tree. As long
as you synchronize every now and then, things happen fairly
automatically. It also dealing with file name changes to a
degree.

iTunes actually has multiple operating modes. One of them is
quite similar.

If I delete Beatunes and reinstall it, what will happen?

Nothing.
You might want to create a new folder-based collection within
beaTunes that uses a different base folder that is more suited to
your needs.

Cheers,

Not really.

You could create a
folder-based library and then move songs out of the library's
base folder. However, if you try this, be careful not to simply
delete songs out of beaTunes—it will delete those songs,
mimicking the behavior of a file manager.

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/373093552017-11-09T00:00:11Z2017-11-09T00:00:13Zbeatunes deletes library and mac isn't able to put back more than 1 file at a time

I have this problem also. I want to be able to remove something from the library list but not delete it from the computer itself. I shouldn't have to move the file somewhere else just to remove it from the library. No other music program I've had ever deletes it from the computer. I just bought this a couple of days ago and I find it as a BIG lemon. I would not ever recommend this to anyone who has painstakingly organized their music in a folder based system. Especially one like mine where I have thousands of songs that have taken years to organize. Having an option just to remove it from the library (as all the rest do) would be a major improvement.

Paul Beniteztag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/373093552017-12-25T16:41:27Z2017-12-26T12:11:46Zbeatunes deletes library and mac isn't able to put back more than 1 file at a time

1 folder of music gone! Very misleading UI or poor explaination. Either that or I'm not intelligent enough for this software. I assume remove from library just get rid of the symlink. NoNo. It deletes them proper. Not even the courtesy to put them into trash. This is a very destructive and dangerous software to use.

mingtag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/373093552017-12-26T12:15:45Z2017-12-26T12:15:45Zbeatunes deletes library and mac isn't able to put back more than 1 file at a time

I assume remove from library just get rid of the symlink.

But the info dialog clearly states: "... and delete the corresponding files?"

Not even the courtesy to put them into trash.

That depends on where the files were stored. Local files are just moved to the thrash. With network files that's often unfortunately not possible. It's a limitation of the system, not beaTunes.

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/373093552017-12-26T15:52:00Z2017-12-26T15:52:01Zbeatunes deletes library and mac isn't able to put back more than 1 file at a time

Yes. I'm sorry. The user should learn how to use the software as intended.

I'm sorry to be so angsty, maybe put delete 'permanently' into the copy or something to infer that its going to do something destructive . Also my deleted files are local. What I'm guessing your code done is to use the rm command, instead of the mv, which move it to the trash or wherever, instead of just deleting it forever.

Honestly, I though beatunes look good and credible. I was on the verge of purchase but its too destructive for me. A safe way to use beatunes is to have a backup of all my music. The picture of the info dialogue u link to clearly describes the problem. Maybe I didnt do well in my english class to properly understand the copy.

whatever. Thank you. I wish beatunes all the best

ming
