Why use Itunes
Hello I'm a windows user testing out your software and I'm having a ton of problems syncing to Itunes. I would prefer not to use that program. What does Beaunes take from the Itunes library that you can't get on your own? Why not just keep your own library and do away with trying to sync to another program. I like to purchase your program but I can't justify it right now. Alternatively can you recommend an alternative BPM, Colour, Tonal playlist generator that works on windows.

Hi,
iTunes serves as a database for songs and also as a library that does some id3 manipulation for beaTunes. I'm working towards not needing iTunes, but it's not certain yet, whether it will make it into beaTunes 3.
And no, I'm not aware of any other software that does the same thing.

Thanks for the quick response. I was finally able to get the identification done by rebooting my computer. I'm guessing the Itunes library got locked somehow and even when restarting both programs It didn't unlock it.
Please tell me you'll have support for Flac in version 3 assuming you are able to get away from Itunes

Currently, on OSX I'm supporting more or less whatever QuickTime/CoreAudio are supporting for reading audio data.

I just want to voice my support for creating a standalone app.
In fact, what I would really like to see is a command line tool that I can use to write the result of the analysis to tags, and then maybe also update a set of playlists on a regular basis. If the whole thing could then run on my NAS... but now I might be reaching.

Also voicing my support for a standalone app. With every version, ITunes is getting worse and worse. This latest Match/Radio/DRM-Replacement issue in 12.1 is just the cherry on top. I'd love to get away from using their product.

Hey Frank,
this is a very old thread. beaTunes has supported folder-based libraries for several years now. Those libraries don't need iTunes.
Please see http://blog.beatunes.com/2015/01/different-libraries-for-different-... for more details.
Cheers,
