The spinning cursor goes away as soon as I click something. Just takes a bit. I deleted an unwanted song, got the spinning cursor again, but it went away soon.

Is there a User Guide? Not just an explanation of the menu choices but a guide to get started and get the most from this program.

There isn't a book-like user guide, but a good starting point is the built in
Help
, accessible with the help menu. Please also check out https://www.beatunes.com/en/beatunes-faq.html#Using%20beaTunes

As you have discovered already, beaTunes shows the cover of the currently playing or last played song, when it has not been used for a while. You can turn this on and off in the preferences.
