I'd re-install beaTunes using the latest beaTunes 4 release. It's available on https://www.beatunes.com/en/beatunes-download-old.html

Question:
On the page that you linked me to, it says,
"beaTunes 1 to 4.x are not actively developed anymore." Just looking for clarification as to what exactly that means.
Does this mean there is a newer version out that I would need to purchase
to have the most up to date copy of the program?
Does this mean that the version I have beatunes4, is no longer being
maintained and updated?

"beaTunes 1 to 4.x are not actively developed anymore."

Unless there are major bugs discovered in the near future, it is unlikely that there will any more updates for beaTunes 1 to 4.x.

Does this mean there is a newer version out that I would need to purchase to have the most up to date copy of the program?

Correct. Version 5 has just been released. If you own a version 4 license you can purchase the upgrade license from the website (for $11.95).

:-)

The license costs $11.95 for people who already own a beaTunes 4.x license.
You can get it here.

To upgrade, make sure beaTunes 4 has an empty analysis queue, then stop it, download beaTunes 5 from the website, install it and then start it.

beaTunes 5 will update your internal database, which will take a while.

Once it's running, try it out. If you like it, buy a license and enter the registration details via the
Help
menu.

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/427834852017-06-19T18:36:57Z2017-06-19T18:36:58ZMac migration problem

Thanks for the quick reply!

What am I to do, to make sure that Beatunes4 has an empty analysis queue?
Also, you said, and then "stop it". Do you mean Quit Beatunes 4? before
downloading 5? I'm sorry, I feel a little dumb at the moment, unable to
follow your train of thought through this process.

You know—beaTunes can analyze stuff. It does so by placing tasks in an analysis queue and then emptying that queue. Yours is probably empty anyway, so no reason to worry.

I'm guessing you are talking about music files and folders, i.e. on the OS level.

The answer is, that beaTunes does not care much about files and folders. So no, it cannot do that.

In doing so I noticed that the library is empty.

Is the search field in the upper right corner empty? Sometimes people forget they still have something in there and wonder why nothing is shown.

So I need to redirect the program to where my iTunes library is currently as I keep it on an external hard drive.

beaTunes does not need to know where your audio files are. It needs to know where your
iTunes Library.xml
file is.

First, I am not sure, when I am "adding a library" if it should be a Database or iTunes base...

Since you seem to be using iTunes, use an iTunes-based library.

Secondly, not sure if I should direct Beatunes to the folder containing all my music files, or to an XML file somewhere?

You need to find the
iTunes Library.xml
file, not the folder with your audio files.

I do not know how to find the XML file, but I can find the music folder containing all my music

It's typically in
~/Music/iTunes/
. But only if you have told iTunes to export it. To make sure it does, open iTunes, then the iTunes preferences, go to
Advanced
and make sure that
Share iTunes Library XML with other applications
is turned on.

Hope this helps!
