How to create key oriented playlist from folder?

Hi,

It might be noob question but I have failed to do it or maybe I do not understand how your software works.

What I have in mind is to shuffle my music in one catalog (around 10 track) in a way that all transitions will be key sensitive. Meaning they will all play nicely. I am unable to do it. All I was able to do is to sort by key but that doesn't help with keys changing abruptly. Optimally it would arrange keys in ascending fashion, so the music will feel uprising. I hope it makes sense.

To sum it up. I want tool that simply arranges small amount of tracks form chosen catalog/folder/playlist into new playlist with logically matching keys. Like in Camelot wheel. Possibly allowing me to move some tracks or showing other possible randomisations. SImply a algorithm that puts your tracks into fitting by key playlists. You can add mood to it as another variable or energy but that is secondary thing for me. Just by key would be enough.

Is there a way to do it simply? Say one button - Randomise by key - or something? Or do I have to do some weird things with many options?

Thanks!

No worries—certainly not a dumb question.

    Would this work for you?

    1. Select the songs you want to sort and add them to a new playlist
    2. Open that playlist and sort by Key by clicking on the table header
    3. Select all songs with CTRL-A
    4. Choose New Playlist from Selection from the File menu

The new playlist will be sorted by key, ascending, as its natural order.

A little cumbersome, but good enough?

    Hi,

Thanks for reply. However I can do the same in Traktor, just analyze my tracks and sort them by key. I don't need beatunes for that. (by the way latest x.x15 version does not update anymore).

WHat I have in mind, organising tunes by key (fine) but with arrangement that prevents key clashes. If you simply sort it by key, next key in line does not necessarily have to fit. You know what, scratch that.

What about algorithm that arranges tunes in such order that they ALL fit, doesn't matter in what key order, just for all tracks (If possible) to play nicely with each other. Keep in mind Kamelot Wheel. No do you understand?

Simply a one button that you press and it randomizes track in such order that they all fit one after another according to rules in camelot wheel. Then you will have an option to rearrange some tracks, pin them down. Press button again and randomize rest of unpinned tracks in such order that they will try to fit according to camelot wheel again. Now it's a future request bur seriously. It's that simple. Just a button that randomizes/organizes tracks with this rule. (Then allowing you to rearrange your picks and make them un-randomizable and further randomizing rest of tracks).

Or something similar that I can do now.

Doesn't regular sorting by key do that? The order is the same as in the Circle of Fifths (or the Camelot wheel).

    Another approach is this:

    1. Open the preferences
    2. Go to Song Matching
    3. Create a new ruleset by clicking on the + button behind the current ruleset
    4. Name it Key Only
    5. Remove all standard rules via the little buttons
    6. Add the Similar Key rule
    7. Close the preferences
    8. Select the playlist you want to re-order
    9. Select the song you want to start the list with
    10. Right-click, select Order Playlist by and then Key Only

This will re-order the playlist starting with the selected song so that matching keys follow each other (if possible). It does not take ascending/descending into account.

I should add that once you set up the Key Only ruleset, you never have to do it again—the right-click Order Playlist is enough.

    Hey Michael,

thought this might interest you. You will also find that 4.0.20 prefers increasing Camelot/OpenKey code instead over decreasing.

Some of the changes were inspired by your request from yesterday.

    Cheers,

    Fantastic! Thanks!

Just to let you know in your download page there is still 4.0.19 version.

I was planning to make short video (screencast) explaining what does not
work and what you can improve but it's hard for me to find time for it.
However I think that would be quickest way to explain everything. I'll let
you know once I do it.

    That should be fixed now.

I guess that's your browser cache. Please go to https://www.beatunes.com/en/download-i386-win.html and ask the browser to reload... that should do it.

Or simply get the 32 bit Windows version from https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-4-0-20-i386-win.exe

Thanks a lot. Your service inspired me to do this video to share my
thoughts. I run software development company with my brother so I
understand the gripe. I'll do it as soon as I can.

Cheers for all help and great support!
