beaTunes, Traktor & FLAC files.

A few questions.

I realize it does this for mp3 but does beaTunes write the key in to the comment field in FLAC files and can they be read in Traktor? I was also wondering if traktors BPM tags can be read in beaTunes and if it's possible to disable beaTunes bpm detection so that traktors tags are not over written. And then my other concern is beaTunes overwriting my additional traktor metadata (loop, cue and warp points), is this an issue?

thanks for your time, sorry for all the questions.

    Hi,

beaTunes can write BPM tags to FLAC files. It does so as Vorbis comments using the field name "BPM". Whether Traktor can read those or not is unfortunately a questionI can't answer - you probably have to ask the Traktor people.

beaTunes should never delete other metadata contained in your files. If it does so, it is a bug and I would love to know about it. You might want to check with a file or two you have backup data for.

BPMs are only calculated for the files you ask beaTunes to calculate the BPM for. And even then you can check a box that indicates whether you want existing BPM data replaced or not.

That all said, beaTunes depends on an open source library JFlac to decode FLAC files. Unfortunately, this library is less than perfect. You will find that therefore beaTunes will not be able to decode all your files. Please first play with the free trial before purchasing, if FLAC files are your main concern. They are supported - but not very well (at least in beaTunes 3.5).

    Hope this helps,

    -hendrik
