Analysing ogg and flac files
Hello. i just downloaded the trial version of beaTunes as i was
looking for a software that can run bpm analysis on more than just
mp3 files. From what i read in the forums, the partial ogg and flac
support means i can't play those files (or not well) but i can
analyse them.
However, i just tried with some ogg files in my collection and got
an error "javax.sound.sampled.UnsopportedAudioFileException : file
is not a supported file type).
beaTune 3.5.2
Is it actually possible to analyse bpm's for ogg and flac or just
inspect them for tagging errors?

Hey,
currently, the metadata of both OGG and FLAC files can be edited via inspection etc.
Both files should also be playable.
However, only FLAC files can be analyzed - to the degree that the used JFlac library decodes them correctly. OGG files currently can't be analyzed, because the for some reason the open source OGG -> PCM converter swallows certain info about the signal (like bits per sample).
The most recent snapshot contains some improvements regarding the playback of OGG files, but analysis is unfortunately still not working correctly.

Hope this helps,

oh. Too bad. I had hoped i finally found an application that can BPM OGG files.
Well, i hope you'll find a way to implement it. Thanks for trying anyway and for the FLAC support. Too many developpers still consider there is nothing beside MP3.

Well, I'd very much like to support it, but there is some more work involved. If I ever have the time, I will look into the conversion issue for OGG.
