Hi,
please update to beaTunes 4.0.2. It fixes this and other issues.
For the curious:
Enteris the start playback shortcut. It needed to be suppressed with the cursor in the search field and wasn't.Thanks,
-hendrik

I just updated which fixed the error but I can't understand how the search can be so completely slow, especially when the default windows search finds tracks as soon as I type the name. Why not use it?
Support Staff 4 Posted by Hendrik Schreib... on 01 Aug, 2014 04:57 PM
I agree, the search is currently not the best it can be. It's on the list of things needing improvement.
Not sure that Windows search is the solution, as I would have to map it to beaTunes library to actually use it.

have updated and search is working, sort of. not showing what I have actually searched for.
eg I search for 'revolution' and about 20 mins later I get the result for the previous search displayed instead.
also, when dragging a track into a matchlist, the first track dragged always replases the first 'seed' track. confusing and annoying.

20min? Really? You're exaggerating?
In any case, it shouldn't be that slow. How many songs are in your collection?
Is this while something else is running? Like some analysis?
Regarding match lists: From where to where exactly are you dragging?
Thanks,
-hendrik

actually the last search I am still waiting for a response. over an hour. yes big collection of 145,000.
matchlist drag from main window to matchlist window.
BTW version 4 looks fabulous.

And nothing else running? Like some analysis task?
Can you please send me your logs?
http://help.beatunes.com/kb/troubleshooting/where-are-the-beatunes-... tells you where to find them and how to send them (whole folder, zipped).
Thank you,
-hendrik

Hey John,
thanks for the logs. Interestingly (to me) they show that the search is actually very quick, it's the ordering that takes way too much time - and then some caching seems to fail.
I made some changes. Can you please try out http://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-4-0-3-SNAPSHOT-osx.dmg
Does it show the same problem? What if you don't order when searching? Meaning, in the table headers there is one header that does not have a label - click on that and you get the "natural" order.
After having played around a little, can you please send me fresh logs? Please zip the entire logs folder, to give me a complete picture.
Thanks a lot!

Hey John,
can you please send me a fresh set of logs? Preferably the whole logs folder, zipped. It compresses very well. Hopefully it helps me diagnose this a little better.
Thank you!

Also... what about searching with no order set? Is that any faster?
Cheers,

Sorry for the many mails...
But while you're at it - could you please also send your "database" folder (in the same directory as the "logs" folder)?
That would allow me to really reproduce the issue.
Thank you!
-hendrik

Hey John,
don't worry about the logs or the database. I spent a quality weekend with the problem and believe I have gotten search to where it's actually usable with a very large collection.
Can you please try out the current dev-snapshot:
Please let me know, whether it makes a difference to you. In my testing it was night and day.
Thank you - I appreciate your help in this.
