When can we expect beaTunes 4? And will it support the camelot notation for the key detection?

    1. Probably July. No Promises.
    2. Camelot notation is proprietary and not open, i.e. not usable by anyone without a license. Therefore I will stick to Open Key Notation, also adopted by Native Instruments.

Thanks a lot for fast and competent answers as usual.

PS: I know the circumstances about the camelot notation. But is it
really so expensive or is it on principle

I'm a strong believer in open standards and–where appropriate–open source software. Sure, beaTunes is not open source, but most of its core libraries (written by myself and others) are.
I would very much appreciate, if MIK moved their notation into the public domain, but clearly they are not doing it.
Personally, I have my doubts whether their intellectual property claim would hold up in court at all, if anybody ever tried to challenge them.
So to answer your question: I have no idea whether they charge anything at all for their license. But once you start accepting, that they have anything licensable, you are in a bad position, should they ever start asking for fees.

    Quick update on this:

I built in the possibility to create your own key renderer.
    See this article for details.

    Cheers,
