Updating Last Played Date
Mac OS 12.5.1
beaTunes 5.2.8
I have an iTunes based setup. I build a daily playlist in beaTunes and then synch it to my iPod or iPad via iTunes. One of the things that determines that list is last played date. This data doesn't seem to update in beaTunes unless I force a full synch. I usually do this daily when I'm not using my Mac. But with a big database it takes a while. Is there some workaround I'm missing?
Thanks

I assume you are using the Music app and not iTunes, right?
Last played should get synchronized even without forcing.
That said, can you please try out the current dev snapshot from https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-2-29-SNAPSHOT.dmg and let me know, whether it fixes the issue (i.e. fast sync without forcing is sufficient).
Thanks!

Tried that new build - no change. The last tune beaTunes shows as played was yesterday. Music app has updated everything I played today. Is it possible that I have to wait till tmw for beaTunes to update today's?
I can continue doing forced sync at bedtime for now. Also realized that as long as the Music app data is accurate, the "Smart Playlists" I use to build the daily playlists in beaTunes will still be up to date.
Thanks

No.
The next time you sync (without force), could you please upload your logs right after the synchronization? You can do so from within the app using
Help
->Upload Logs
and then please let me know that you've uploaded your data. I'm curious to see, what's going on.Thanks!

Hendrik,
Just sent you the log you requested. For what it's worth I played 40 songs today between 11:16 AM and 3:16 pm.
Thanks,
Rick

Hey Rick,
thanks for the logs.
I have worked on this some and created a new snapshot. It's available at https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-2-29-SNAPSHOT.dmg (same URL, but different version). Can you please try this and let me know, whether it solves the issue?
When in doubt, whether you have the most current snapshot (sometimes web caches keep older versions around), please check beaTunes' About dialog. It should say "built on Aug 24".
Thanks,
-hendrik

This latest version does work, Hendrik, altho it isn't much faster than a forced sync. But let me see what happens if I sync periodically throughout the day. I'll let you know.
Thanks,
Rwik

Hm. It should be much faster than the forces sync. Could you please upload your logs again after (regular) syncing?
Thanks!

Just sent the new logs. A few notes:
I have 34,600 pieces of music - 280 Gigs
At the time I started this sync 6 songs had updated Play dates.
Sync took 22 minutes. Perhaps that is good considering the size of my collection?

beaTunes updated 11995 of those 34600 tracks, because of some change in last played date/skip date/last modified date. This may just be catching up, because it hasn't happened before... Or it may be a timezone conversion issue.
The next time you run that sync after playing some tracks, can you please upload your logs again?
Thanks,
-hendrik

Hendrik,
Here is my latest as of about 9PM PDT. In addition to creating a new daily playlist each day, I am also working in the Music.app to be sure that the composer field is populated correctly. That would account for some of the 11995 tracks, but only a fraction. I also rarely skip a song. Hope that is useful.

Thank you. I think I have an idea what the issue is, but no solution just yet.

Hi,
there is a new snapshot at https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-2-29-SNAPSHOT.dmg, which will hopefully fix the issue. But probably not on the first time you use it, but starting with the second time.
Please let me know how well this works for you.
Thanks!

I can confirm that this new build is much quicker. The first time was long as you said, although I didn't clock the time.
Thank You

Great!
Thanks for trying this out. The change will be part of the next minor update.
