Hi,
the XML file is actually just a copy of what's in your iTunes library.
beaTunes deletes the entry from the library (and as a consequence the entry it also removed from the xml). Then it goes on and moves the file to the trash/recycling bin, if possible.

It does, when i tested the actual file delete was not instant (was more than 10 minutes), so it had me wondering.

Quite possible - some of the solutions are executed asynchronously, so there may be a delay.
