I'm certainly not in the business of recommending other software. ;-)

beaTunes can do metadata lookup based on audio fingerprints. But that's not guarantee for accurate metadata, for a bunch of reasons. One being, that many songs are released multiple times on different albums, which makes it close to impossible to guess the "right" album.

In any case, here's what you can do interactively:

Run the beaTunes analysis task for fingerprints (just that task, no other task)

Open the Get Info dialog for the track in question

Switch to the Info tab

(beaTunes will automatically run a reference check)

Whenever beaTunes believes a value may be wrong, it shows red squiggle lines under the item, e.g. under the artist value

Right-click on an underlined item to see alternative values, which can be selected (see attached screenshot)

If you know, that some value is wrong, but not underlined, delete a character or two and beaTunes will (in most cases) suggest other/correct values for the given field

If you want to correct many many songs, beaTunes can help you with batch processing, via the import metadata task:

Again, run the beaTunes analysis task for fingerprints (just that task, no other task) - if you have already done this, skip it.

Then select the tracks you want to fix and analyze them using the Import metadata task

When configuring the task, be super-careful with the Replace option. Especially when replacing the album field, as that by definition can just be a guess

If you have any questions about the offered options, please ask. There is no undo, unless you keep a backup of your audio files around.

Hope this helps - let me know, if you have any questions.

thank you so much for your advise! beaTunes is even more powerful than I thought but without your help I would not have been able to do the tag check.

In the meantime I found another source of error from the past when I used to run TuneUp. Thank Heavens this software left a comment „cleaned with TuneUp“. I created an intelligent playlist and can manually check the entries just by reading the entries. At first glance there is less „damage“ than expected. Unfortunately the TuneSweeper does not leave a comment :-(.

If an ABBA-Song ends up on a wrong „Album“ (Gold or Greatest Hits or the original album) this is not of my big concern but if the artist is changed to Glen Campbell it is :-).

I will follow your advise and if I find suspicious entries in my intelligent playlist (cleaned by TuneUp) I can always use Picard Brainz in addition to Bea. Saving the Picard checked file within Picard (loaded from finder) is enough for the Apple Music App. It automatically takes over the new information.

Puh! A lot of work ahead...

Have a great weekend and all the best from Kehl, Germany

just one question. When I chose „import missing data“ and don’t tick „replace existing metadata" like on the screenshot, then existing entries won’t be touched, right? For instance, if a song has a title and and artist and album title just the missing blanc fields will be filled, e. g. genre or year. Just wanna make sure that I get it.

Thanks

I always recommend to try this with just a few songs first, so you know what you're doing.

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/494231932021-10-07T19:48:18Z2021-10-07T19:48:19ZTags messed up



I am in love with Bea now. After fingerprinting I was able to fix quite a few titles. I love looking up tags in the „information window“.

Overnight I did a BMP and dancability-analysis just for fun (and for later playlist creation).

Dancablility (Tanzbarkeit in German) delivered perfect results.

The BMP results, however, are confusing me. It seems that the old values were right. The new values are either too high or too low. I would have expected faster paced songs with a higher BMP-rate. I mean, look, Meryl Streep „The Day Before you Came“ is a ballad (from Musical Mamma Mia!). 199,9 BMP ???

What does „BMP nach Stimmung“ (BMP according to „mood“) mean anyhow?

Is there a way to reset the BMP-values to their original values? I don’t even know where the original values come from to be frank (maybe from Tune Sweeper) :-).

Best regards
Thomas

interesting. IMHO, the BPM algorithm is far superior to what beaTunes does for danceability. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What setting did you use during BPM analysis? Was "Use online resources" on or off? If it was on, I recommend running it again with it turned off. A common mistake in BPM estimation is the so-called "octave-error", where the algorithm is off by a factor of 2 or 0.5. Perhaps that's the issue here. You may have to turn "Replace existing values" on as well.

"BPM by mood", simply means that you have enabled a secondary sort order - first by tempo, second by mood. You can change that by clicking on the table header. See also, for example, https://blog.beatunes.com/2021/05/update-beatunes-5223.html

Have a great Sunday,

over night I just ran the danceability, color and BMP analysis. BMP „Use online resources“ OFF. I let Bea calculate the values.

Now I re-ran a BMP-analysis for a few selected songs, e.g. the Abba ballade from Streep. This time I included the online resources. The right value, well let’s say a lower value (100 BMP) was found and the value of 199,9 BMP (that Bea calculated) got replaced. The smaller numbers in grey „Old BMP“ disappeared. Therefore, I guess that the new BMP-value fo 100 now found online corresponds to the old value. Downloaded or bought songs normally don’t have BMP-indications (I checked this out for songs that Bea cannot touch because of file protection - bought from Apple Store when they still had a DRM protection). Tune Sweeper must have previously looked up the same BMP-value of 100 in the online resources. Probably Bea and the Sweeper use the same sources.

What I will do now: I will do a re-run of BMP. This time with „Use online resources“ ON. I tested it with a few files that do have wrongly calculated BMP-values. It works. The new values seem more plausible.

It’s really funny that danceability seems to be right, though.

It’s really challenging working with Bea but very rewarding once you get into it.

And thanks for this great product support. I am not a music freak and Bea is not idiot-proof :-)

Best regards
