Complaint and Request for Instructions or Refund - Software not detecting nor writign BPM in metatags
Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to file a complaint regarding the purchased software. I have purchased the software, however it does not detect BPM for all tracks, and for those tracks where BPM is detected, the value is not saved in the metadata tags.
In my view, this is not what I expected, and the software does not function in accordance with its stated promises. It is possible that I am doing something incorrectly, in which case I kindly ask you to provide clear instructions on how to use the software properly.
Otherwise, I will request a refund of the purchase due to non-compliance with the contract, pursuant to applicable Polish and European consumer protection regulations.
Under the Polish Act on Consumer Rights (Articles 43c and 43d), the seller is liable for non-conformity of digital content with the contract for a period of two years from delivery. A product is non-conforming if it does not correspond to the description or lacks the functionality promised at the time of sale.
Additionally, pursuant to Directive (EU) 2019/770 on digital content and digital services, digital content must be supplied in conformity with the contract. If conformity cannot be restored within a reasonable time, the consumer is entitled to a price reduction or termination of the contract with a full refund.
Yours faithfully,
Paweł Kanturski

Hey Paweł,
no need to quote any laws to me. I'm happy to give you a refund, if your expectation aren't met by beaTunes (in fact, I have just now issued the refund, as you appear to be unhappy with beaTunes). See also refund policy.
beaTunes can analyze the BPM of most music files that are not encrypted in one way or another. Note that all files you may "rent" from Apple via the Apple Music service are encrypted, which is something you most likely agreed to in Apple's terms of service. The fact that Apple encrypts and therefore cripples the files you get via the Apple Music service is something that's known for about 10 years now (see also here). It is Apple's explicit intention to keep third party vendors and users from accessing the raw audio in these files.
beaTunes does not pretend it can properly deal with this. See the article above and also the FAQ.
There is a workaround that works some of the time. Which is: turning
Use online resourceson in the analysis options dialog. This implies that the BPM is not computed based on your local file (i.e. the unencrypted audio portion), but instead looked up, based on metadata (title, artist, duration, etc.). Results may vary.I hope this clarifies beaTunes' capabilities.
Cheers,
-hendrik

Thank you for your explanations. I cited the regulations just in case,
because refunds for software can be handled differently. I assumed that the
program would be able to “listen to” the contents of the files or compare
them with online databases (“use online resources”) and assign BPM values.
Especially since DJ software is able to analyze the BPM of files streamed
from the cloud.
It still managed to analyze the BPM for about one quarter of the tracks in
the playlist, but there is another problem - no way to synchronize its
results with the actual Apple Music playlist. It is supposed to sync
automatically, but no bpm is showing in BPM tag in Apple Music. That’s why
I asked for help — maybe I missed something. I would rather have working
software than a refund :)

Hey Pawel,
So the results show up in beaTunes, but not in Apple Music?
beaTunes knows two modes of operation: Folder-based and Apple Music (the app, not the service) based. You can check in the beaTunes preferences what you've set up.
For a folder-based library, beaTunes embeds the computed values directly in your audio files, given the files are writable and in a supported format.
For an Apple Music based library, beaTunes asks Apple Music to store the computed value. This only works, if you have allowed beaTunes to do this. A dialogue asking your permission should have popped up early when you've started using beaTunes.
So in other words. If the BPM values are not showing up, these could be the reasons:
Top check, whether beaTunes can remote control Apple Music, check
Automationin your system's privacy settings (see screenshot). The easiest way to find them is to open the System Settings, then type in "Automation" and then select "Allow applications to ..." beaTunes should be allowed to remote control Apple Music.Note, that if this was indeed the problem, merely repeating analysis won't export the values to Apple Music. You will have to check the box "force overwrite" in the analysis options.
Hope this helps.
