I downloaded the trial version, the first time it ran perfectly but the second time it displayed the error "Error starting Java VM". After rebooting the pc the error did not went away.

I installed java but nothing changed
Deleted beatunes, installed again and it ran again. After closing the program and opening again it did not ran again with the same error

Please help, it seems a nice tool to buy.

    Hey Elio,
that's weird. You definitely don't need to install Java for beaTunes to run (it's bundled).
Can you please share which version of beaTunes and Windows you are using?
    Thanks,

    -hendrik

Hi Hendrik, I bought a license of beatunes, ran it. It loaded all the music files, I ran the analysis option and then a windows appeared telling that I need to increase the memory to 3G, I let it do it. After resetting the computer beatunes is not running with the same error "Error starting Java VM".

    Please help.

    Hey Elio,

    sorry for being unresponsive.

Please launch the command line (via cmd.exe) and enter

    cat %TMP%\.beaTunes-start.log

If this succeeds, you should see a more detailed error message. What is shown?

If this leads to nothing, please try to launch beaTunes from the command line like this:

    1. Start a command line window by typing cmd.exe into the Windows search box
    2. Navigate to the beaTunes installation directory, probably named c:\Program File\beaTunes5, by typing cd "c:\Program File\beaTunes5".
    3. Launch beaTunes by typing beaTunes5.exe

Does that produce any useful message in the command line window?

If not, please try the same again, but in step 3, please type: beaTunes5.exe -Wlog.level=debug -Wlog.overwrite=true -Wlog.file.and.console=true

Hopefully this sheds some light on what's going wrong.

Also: Which version of beaTunes / Windows are you running: 32 bit or 64bit.

    Thanks,

    -hendrik

    Thanks for the logs.

    Did you retry step 3 with beaTunes5.exe -Wlog.level=debug -Wlog.overwrite=true -Wlog.file.and.console=true?

    Any results?

    Anyhow.

Can you please try to set the memory back to something smaller, like 2GB. To do so edit the environment variable BEATUNES_MEMORY and set it to -Xmx2G then try to start beaTunes.

There is a very old article that explains how it's done for Windows 7: http://help.beatunes.com/kb/troubleshooting/manually-changing-the-b... Frankly, not much has changed since then. It more or less still works the same way. Let me know, if you have trouble doing this.

Any idea why beaTunes is not able to start with 3GB heap? How much RAM does your computer have?

    Weird.

I'm still trying to understand why the 3GB setting did not work (16GB memory should be plenty). Can you please send a screenshot of beaTunes' About dialog? It's in the Help menu. Attached is a sample for macOS.

    Thanks!

Most likely the internal database is for some reason not in great shape.
If this error persist, run Tools -> Repair Database.

That said, could you please send a screenshot of the about dialog?

    Thanks.
