I can´t open beaTunes in windows 11

I am trying to tray your beaTunes, downloaded from your web, but once installed it does not open, only the splash presentation screen. I tryed both, the 32 and the 64 versions, installed the updated Java version. Please, how can I do to be able to test your SW?

This is unknown so far… can you please try to launch beaTunes5.exe from the command line? Does it produce any output? What?

Oh and definitely use the 64Bit version. 32bit is a legacy environment by now.

Could be a problem related with the language? I am using Winows 11 ES
(Spanish)

When I use the included installer, beaTunes5.exe is installed in:
"C:\Program Files\beaTunes5\beaTunes5.exe", but in the W11 spanish version
must be "C:\Archivos de Programa\beaTunes5\beaTunes5.exe"

So, when I use cmd and use "C:\Program Files\beaTunes5\beaTunes.exe" I dont
receive more reaction that the splash screen, as I told you.

BUT if I use cmd with the real path where the SW is installed "C:\Archivos
de Programa\beaTunes5\beaTunes.exe" nothing happens and I receive via cmd
"El nombre de archivo, el nombre de directorio o la sintaxis de la etiqueta
del volumen no son correctos" (path not correct)

"C:\Archivos de Programa\beaTunes5\beaTunes.exe" seems wrong. Can you please try "C:\Archivos de Programa\beaTunes5\beaTunes5.exe" (there should be a 5 in the executable's name).

Also, it might be better to first change to the app's directory. I.e.:

cd "C:\Archivos de Programa\beaTunes5" then beaTunes5.exe (or "C:\Archivos de Programa\beaTunes5\beaTunes5.exe")

No, no message whatsoever … just the wellcome message screen a few seconds and then nothing … you can’t either see beaTunes in the Task Manager

Sorry, Hendrick I forgot to tell you that I have Itunes 12.12 in my
system, share itunes library xml with other applications is allowed, the
path of my library is

"W:\Música\iTunes" and the size of the library isa round 90.000 songs.

could you please download and install the development snapshot from https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-2-32-SNAPSHOT-x64.exe - run it and let me know, whether it fixes the issue?

If it works, it may be possible that the UI is not scaled properly. Please let me know about anything that seems strange. In any case, if beaTunes starts up, please open the Help menu (within in the app) and select Upload Logs. Hopefully there will be some more interesting information for me.

Thanks for trying this and thanks for the log files, especially the beaTunes.log.

In your beaTunes installation folder, there should be a file called beaTunes5.ini. Can you please open the file with an editor and insert the following line after vmarg.21=-Dhttps.protocols=TLSv1.1,TLSv1.2.
```
vmarg.22=-Djavax.accessibility.assistive_technologies=" "
```
so that it looks like this:

My Windows 11 is an Insider release. May be it have some capabilities forbidden. But it is very strange, I know.

I totally uninstalled BeaTunes5, cleaned everything and installed BeaTunes 4-6-18 x64 downloaded from your download page … and everything works fine!

Hey Gonzalo,

beaTunes 4 and 5 use different Java runtimes. In both cases the runtime is bundled with the app (so it does not matter what version of Java you have installed on your system), but for v4 it's a Java 8 runtime, while for v5 it's a Java 11 runtime. That said, any Java runtime can be extended via system wide directories. On Windows systems this is usually C:\WINDOWS\Sun\Java\lib\ext. If there is anything in there that only works for Java 8, it breaks any other app that uses a different Java version.

In your case, there is an error message saying that Java cannot load some assistive technology part:
```
java.awt.AWTError: Assistive Technology not found: com.sun.java.accessibility.AccessBridge
    at java.desktop/java.awt.Toolkit.newAWTError(Toolkit.java:472)
[...]
```
This may be due to some configuration of your system or some property of Windows 11 itself. Since I haven't heard about any problems with Windows 11 itself, I suspect that the issue is some sort of configuration.

Adding vmarg.22=-Djavax.accessibility.assistive_technologies=" " to the .ini file was the attempt to simply turn off assistive technologies. Not sure why this didn't work. 🤷‍♂️

The next step is to check C:\WINDOWS\Sun\Java\lib\ext. Does it contain anything? Does removing all files from that directory and then starting beaTunes 5 perhaps solve the issue?

Regarding Java Access Bridge—do you require it to be installed? Do you need it?

Any chance you've found something in C:\WINDOWS\Sun\Java\lib\ext?

BTW: I did just test beaTunes 5 again on a clean Windows 11 Home installation and it works like a charm. This supports the suspicion that it's something like Java Access Bridge in your system that is causing the problem.

Dear Hendrick

Yesterday I told you that I would throw in the towel and give up installing
beaTunes5, but this is really too hard for me, so a while ago I tried again,
and I installed Beatunes 5 in its previous version 5.1.14 ... and BINGO !
... THIS VERSION WORKS CORRECTLY.

In summary:

1. In my W11 Pro there is no Windows/Java directory

2. I don't have Access Bridge installed, never had it and don't need it
either.

3. The versions beaTunes-5-2-32-x64 and beaTunes-5-2-32-SNAPSHOT-x64 do not
work on my computer with my W11, generating the logs that I have sent you
before.

Now that everything works fine I realize that beaTunes is much better and
better suited to my needs than other programs I've tried and told you about
before. The only problem I have left to solve is why pay for an outdated
version (I'm using trial version 5.1.14) without being sure that I can't
update it because updates don't work.

Perhaps you should investigate for your part what are the differences
between SW 5.1.14 and 5.2.32, because it is in them where the cause of
beaTunes not working in my case is.

I'm sorry I can't buy beaTunes because, as I said before, it's clearly
better and more complete than others I've tried... but in its latest
versions it doesn't work for me

Could you please expand the trial period? … after all those problems it´s on 10 days now.

Unfortunately, for technical reason I cannot. However, the trial period check only happens on startup, so, if you leave beaTunes running, you can pretty much extend the trial period indefinitely. That said, there is a pretty friendly refund policy, should you decide to purchase and then change your mind (within 60 days).
