I think I found the issue and created a new snapshot. Please uninstall the old snapshot (without removing color etc. - there'll be a message box), download the new one from http://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-2-1-15-SNAPSHOT-jre-win.exe and give that a shot. It should get rid of the OutOfMemoryError.
Hopefully...
Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Still not quite there. Seems to be getting closer, though.

Attached is the log file. I notice in the log the line that says, "file to
keep" lists the song and then goes on to give the file location. The next
line gives the "file to be removed" and then gives the duplicate song, but
does not show the file location. Could it be that it just doesn't yet know
where to find the file for removal? Just my attempt at understanding the
logs.

Monte

P.S. do you want me to change the email subject line, or just keep going
with the original PUIC subject?

the deletion process is done in two parts - first the songs are
removed from beaTunes' database, then from iTunes'. The first part
seemed to have gone through alright, but then something happened
before the second part was executed. I made some changes that
should make it so that even if something goes wrong in the first
part, the second part is still executed. However, the second part
can take a while.

it seems like iTunes is relatively slow returning Track objects,

Thanks.

-hendrik

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/7769192018-01-02T19:54:37Z2018-01-02T19:54:37ZAn error ocurred: java.io.Exception: PUID lookup timed out

I used BeaTunes 5 to check out a sample subset of the issue, using directory-based library. I pointed it towards a directory test file with about 5 folders in it, 20 or 30 songs. Lots of repeats, wrong spellings, etc. Mainly interested in deleting duplicates. Well, it cleans up the library quite a bit, as it appears in BeaTunes. But the source folders still contain all those duplicates.

Is it possible for BeaTunes to work on the directory files themselves? Or does it only work on libraries, like the BeaTunes library or an iTunes library?

Ultimately I'd like to delete all those duplicates, and then import them to iTunes.

Cleaning them up only after they are imported into iTunes means they take a lot longer to upload into itunes, and it seems to time-out and crash. It also means that whenever I back up my hard drive, I'm backing up hundreds of gigs of duplicates, which I don't really need.

Some of the duplicates are user-errors, meaning that someone uploaded a song with the wrong spelling or something, or uploaded songs into different folders (i.e. same song in original album and also in Greatest Hits album). But I also have my old problem where the exact same song is in the same album/folder, but with a "1" following it.

I'm also trying to remember how to do this as a batch process, since I can't stop and approve each edit.

montepaulsentag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/7769192018-01-02T20:52:41Z2018-01-02T20:52:41ZAn error ocurred: java.io.Exception: PUID lookup timed out

Hey...
