Every time i choose the option Get MusicIP PUID i had the same error.

if you experienced a crash or other abnormal behavior, you might want to attach log files from /Users/raschmi/Library/Logs/beaTunes

I think I found the issue and created a new snapshot. Please uninstall the old snapshot (without removing color etc. - there'll be a message box), download the new one from http://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-2-1-15-SNAPSHOT-jre-win.exe and give that a shot. It should get rid of the OutOfMemoryError.
    Hopefully...
    Let's keep our fingers crossed!

    Hendrik,

Still not quite there. Seems to be getting closer, though.

Attached is the log file. I notice in the log the line that says, "file to
keep" lists the song and then goes on to give the file location. The next
line gives the "file to be removed" and then gives the duplicate song, but
does not show the file location. Could it be that it just doesn't yet know
where to find the file for removal? Just my attempt at understanding the
    logs.

    Monte

P.S. do you want me to change the email subject line, or just keep going
    with the original PUIC subject?

    Hey Monte,

the deletion process is done in two parts - first the songs are removed from beaTunes' database, then from iTunes'. The first part seemed to have gone through alright, but then something happened before the second part was executed. I made some changes that should make it so that even if something goes wrong in the first part, the second part is still executed. However, the second part can take a while.

    So, here it is.

    Looking forward to your feedback!

PS: While I typically like one thread per issue/subject, at this point it probably does not make any sense any more to change the subject.

    Hi Monte!

My provider has issues again - they moved datacenters recently and that move apparently didn't go as smoothly as they would like their customers to believe :-(

They promised the site will be accessible again "soon" - whatever that means.

Yay! It was doing something... got to delete roughly 3,000 files, until it encountered a trivial error. Easily fixed - and I really, really hope this is the final try. Thanks for being so patient.

It seems to be running. The iTunes song count is slowly ticking down as it runs. It subtracts one song number from the total about once every 8 seconds, by my count. It may take a few days to finish. Let me know if this speed seems excessively slow.

    Hey Monty,

it does seem excessively slow.. can you send me some logs, please? (no need to stop beaTunes for that). The logs should give me a clearer picture on what's happening, and also provide timestamps.

    Thanks,

    Hi Monte,

it seems like iTunes is relatively slow returning Track objects, which might be due to the fact the we are mass deleting those from its database.

At this point there is not a whole lot I can do - it seems to be doing the right thing - unfortunately not a fast as I wished.

Does the TaskManager show a high CPU load for iTunes at all?

  15. 45 Posted by montepaulsen on 06 Dec, 2010 02:36 AM

    montepaulsen's Avatar

It shows iTunes running at about 97-99%. So far, down to 101,000 songs from 140,000. Looks like a few more days to go.

  16. Support Staff 46 Posted by hendrik on 06 Dec, 2010 09:34 AM

Thanks for checking. The CPU load on iTunes means, it's busy dealing with its own database. It also means, there is unfortunately little I can do to speed this up.

On the bright side: I'm glad this finally works and really appreciate you working with me on this. This means others can benefit from the improvement and overall beaTunes got better. When the time comes for beaTunes 3, please remind me to send you a free upgrade (if you don't get it automatically).

    Thanks again,

I haven't checked it extensively, but a preliminary check indicates that it
got rid of a lot of stuff.

    Good work.

Let me revive this discussion—you have the same problem again?

Have you tried using beaTunes 5 to address the issue? If you did, what was the exact problem and the how far did you get?

    Thanks.

I used BeaTunes 5 to check out a sample subset of the issue, using directory-based library. I pointed it towards a directory test file with about 5 folders in it, 20 or 30 songs. Lots of repeats, wrong spellings, etc. Mainly interested in deleting duplicates. Well, it cleans up the library quite a bit, as it appears in BeaTunes. But the source folders still contain all those duplicates.

Is it possible for BeaTunes to work on the directory files themselves? Or does it only work on libraries, like the BeaTunes library or an iTunes library?

Ultimately I'd like to delete all those duplicates, and then import them to iTunes.

Cleaning them up only after they are imported into iTunes means they take a lot longer to upload into itunes, and it seems to time-out and crash. It also means that whenever I back up my hard drive, I'm backing up hundreds of gigs of duplicates, which I don't really need.

Some of the duplicates are user-errors, meaning that someone uploaded a song with the wrong spelling or something, or uploaded songs into different folders (i.e. same song in original album and also in Greatest Hits album). But I also have my old problem where the exact same song is in the same album/folder, but with a "1" following it.

I'm also trying to remember how to do this as a batch process, since I can't stop and approve each edit.

    32 bit.
I saw where it said "windows 10, preferably 64 bit" but mine's 32.

If you're using the 32 bit version, please download https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-0-7-SNAPSHOT-i586.exe and install it. Make sure that beaTunes is not running when you run the installer. Among other things, it fixes an issue with the "move to thrash" deletion on Windows. That might just solve the issue.

The fix will also be contained in the next "real" update.

It may have fixed the problem. attached is a screenshot of the original folder, left, and the test folder, right. It did keep the file with the "1" after it, but that appears to be due to the larger bit rate of that file, which was the option I chose.

I do notice that it left both "you oughta know" and "oughta know", which obviously are the same song.

For some reason your screenshots didn't make it. Please use the web interface (link below) to attach them again.

    Thanks!

Did you run the fingerprint analysis before inspecting for duplicates? It allows for acoustic matching.
