I have a very large mp3 library and am trying to update the BPM data. When i start an analysis, the progress bar to the left of the files flash and the list of files scrolls...at first. After about 10mins, the list stops moving and nothing flashes on the progress bar.
Next to the "Task Queue" under "Analysis", the ... continues to move.

Checking the message log, i see "failed to decode track....unsupportableaudiofile: mp3, failed to decode audio frame. (invalid data found whe processing input))
Next error is "failed to use online resources, java.net.socketexception:connection reset

    Hey,

this seems to be an issue with v5.2.0 (see also http://help.beatunes.com/discussions/problems/54194-beatunes-just-s...).

Could you please try out the latest dev snapshot from https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-2-1-SNAPSHOT.dmg ? Upon installation macOS may complain, because the snapshot is not notarized. You can work around it by right-clicking on the application and choosing open from the context menu.

Please let me know, if the snapshot fixes the issue.

    Thank you!

...and about the decoding issue—that's separate from the SocketException and may be related to malformed mp3 files or simply files that the decoder does not know how to deal with. I would need the logs to give more advice. The snapshot mentioned above allows uploading logs via its Help menu.

Darn. Unfortunately, I cannot quickly point you to a Windows snapshot.

For 5.2.0 the built in log upload mechanism is unfortunately broken, http://help.beatunes.com/kb/troubleshooting/where-are-the-beatunes-logs contains instructions to work around that.

Here are my logs. I tried analyzing a smaller selection of files vs the whole collection. Same result.
If I pause and restart, it doesn’t restart (after it errors)
If I restart the app, it will resume analysis and then error.

I just tried a different approach and created a playlist that only has songs with no BPM count. The analysis on that playlist seems to be continuing to run without hangup. It’s completed analysis of 400+ songs and still running.

    Hey Ben,

I have received your logs and have an idea what might be going wrong. I will have more time to really look into this in the next couple of days. In the meantime, could you please run Tools -> Repair Database (not rebuild!). Running repair ensures that the database is in tip top state. Perhaps that already fixes the issue (it's obvious from your logs that there is some database problem).

    Thanks,

    Will do.

For a little insight to my setup: I use media monkey for my music management and it’s set to update the library when I start it, scanning for changes and then moving/renaming files based on rules. I leave it closed while I cycle beatunes through analysis runs, then open MM to update the library. Now and then, I have beatunes resync to resolve the 404 errors.

Should I do a rebuild on a regular basis?

Analysis has been running since I sent the last email. It’s still running after about 2200~ files. I notice that it appears to be doing one file at a time vs multi-threading when it first launches.

Yes. The core of the problem seems to be that analysis threads are slowly dying.

I believe, I have fixed the issue. Could you please try out the current dev snapshot from https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-2-2-SNAPSHOT-x64.exe and let me know, whether it indeed fixes the problem?

Thanks so much and have a great weekend!

I was thinking like Media Monkey. Instead of building a playlist manually, being able to specify criteria. Ie build a list of 50 songs, between 125 and 150bpm of Rock and hip hop. Or take advantage of your “last analyzed” field to show songs that haven’t been analyzed.

    Howdy,
I'm pleased to report that I haven't had any lockups or crashes after several very large batch analysis jobs.

One issue I have that you might be able to explain. When I sort by Date Analyzed, it's not grouping all of them together as you can see in the screen clip. When I scroll farther down the list, then it seems to sort correctly.

Is this also the case right after you've started beaTunes, without running any analysis?

Weird. I cannot reproduce this behavior. Does sorting by analysis date, switching to another sort order and then switching back to analysis date sorting solve this?

If not, please upload your logs right after you've tried that (Help -> Upload Logs).

    Thank you,

I can’t reproduce it either. I selected those files plus ones that weren’t showing an analyzed date and analyzed them, now everything sorts correctly.
