A fatal error occurred during initialization

HI,

Attached are the logs, they were also sent automatically by the app.

From my side, I am using a loaner Mac with 8Gb of RAM. My library is on an external HDD, going through an USB 3.0 hub, I don't see this as an issue, I never have buffering problems in iTunes.

A rundown of my problems.
 Match lists show when completed, I rename them so they are unique file names and easy to find. Sync with iTunes, even several times, they don’t show up iTunes. Also they disappear in beaTunes. This makes using beaTunes virtually impossible.

I have had two fatal errors, 28 March and 6 April, On 19March19 I had java errors, I removed the ffs file (disabled_ffsampledsp-x86_64-darwin-0.9.18.dylib) following the info in the forum. I seem to not have this type of error anymore, so maybe it was solved and will not reoccur.
Some tracks don’t get tagged with Mood or Timbre. I have tried re-anailzing these tracks several time, nothing happens. I do not buy music that is a lossy audio file, so I don’t DRM problems. I don’t understand why some songs can’t get these tags on the the music files. If don’t’ have them on every track, the concept of beaTunes greatly diminished as these tracks most likely will not end on in a match playlists.

The software is extremely slow, sluggish, so bad I can’t work on the beaTunes, everything has to be on iTunes, missing the unique metadata that I am starting to rely on. I consider this a serious problem. I use m4a files, mostly 16 bit/44kHz, again I never have problems in iTunes. This problem also occurred on my personal computer MacBook Pro (mid- 2015 16Gb RAM. Maybe slightly faster than my loaner Mac. Still can not work on beaTunes.

I now have two a serious problems with iTunes,
When I search for a track, it is found but can not be displayed. I can find the track by going through my 30.000+ library, it plays fine. I only have this problem after starting to use beaTunes.
That same music file, can not be found by searching on beatune. I can find the file by going through the library the same as iTunes.

Thank you for your time,
Wayne Cohen

    Hey Wayne,

    Sorry, for the delayed answer.

    Match lists show when completed, I rename them so they are unique file names and easy to find. Sync with iTunes, even several times, they don’t show up iTunes. Also they disappear in beaTunes. This makes using beaTunes virtually impossible.

    For any changes in beaTunes to appear in iTunes you should never need to sync. Only for the other way around. But this only works for iTunes-based libraries. Also, if you switch back and forth between iTunes and beaTunes a lot, automatic synchronization on windows activation must be off. Otherwise, after creating a list, you delete it by importing what was in iTunes before you created the list.

    That's weird, ffsampledsp should not be connected to Fatal Errors. Can you please point me to the forum entry where that was recommended (if you still have that handy)?

    Some tracks don’t get tagged with Mood or Timbre. I have tried re-anailzing these tracks several time, nothing happens. I do not buy music that is a lossy audio file, so I don’t DRM problems. I don’t understand why some songs can’t get these tags on the the music files. If don’t’ have them on every track, the concept of beaTunes greatly diminished as these tracks most likely will not end on in a match playlists.

    Moods in beaTunes 5 are based on LastFM tags or AcousticBrainz data. If neither is available, beaTunes cannot automatically populate the mood field.

    Timbre is different. It is computed from the audio files and should pretty much always be available (except for very short songs). Try turning Use online resources off for this task during analysis.

    The software is extremely slow, sluggish, so bad I can’t work on the beaTunes,

    If you had multiple Fatal Errors, you should probably repair (not rebuild) your database. This is possible via the Tools menu.

    everything has to be on iTunes, missing the unique metadata that I am starting to rely on.

    I'm not sure I understand your point. Could you explain, please?
    E.g., what do you mean with "everything has to be on iTunes"?

    When I search for a track, it is found but can not be displayed. I can find the track by going through my 30.000+ library, it plays fine. I only have this problem after starting to use beaTunes. That same music file, can not be found by searching on beatune. I can find the file by going through the library the same as iTunes.

    Can you please provide an example with screenshots? Does the name contain any special characters? How can you tell it is found, but not displayed?

    Thanks,

    -hendrik

    HI,

    Here are my replies. Hope you can make sense that they are out of context.

    New problem a few minutes ago. beaTunes crashed, I restarted my Mac open
    beaTunes, all the analyzing data is gone. Until now I have not been
    embedding the data into the music files. I can recover from my backup, is
    this a proper Wayne to recover the data?

    I am a bit apprehensive about messing up the database.

    I attached a the latest log files.

    I never had auto sync on.

    I do manually sync every time I switch between iTunes and beaTunes

    I don’t understand what you mean by “importing”. Do you mean syncing?

    ===
    About the ffsample file removal

    This is the page
    http://help.beatunes.com/discussions/problems/46125-failed-to-decode-track-errors

    =======

    OK, I will turn on online resources and test.

    =======

    While I was waiting for your reply I repaired the database, The first try I
    got a “Database Repair Failed” warning (I attached a screenshot of the
    message). I restarted my Mac and tried to repair again, this time no
    warning. I think the job finished, I left it for about 1 1/2 days.

    Is there a Wayne to know if the repair was a success?

    After the repair of the beaTunes database, it runs much faster, the lag
    seems to be gone. I have not yet tried to use beaTunes again until I heard
    back from you.

    ==-====

    I was thinking the low RAM could be causing problems. After the repair
    things seem to run well so far.

    I have been updating track details in beaTunes but they do not show up in
    iTunes, synced several times, still they did not show up. I did not check
    to see if the changes I made were still in beaTunes and I can’t remember
    what track there changes were made.

    =======

    I use beaTunes for making Playlists mostly. I do everything else in iTunes,
     That was what I was trying to say.

    ========

    After I repaired the database all is good, I can search and it shows in
    beaTunes.

    Seems repairing the database did the trick for most of my issues.

    Can you confirm that I am good to go using beaTunes, that the error message
    is not important?

    Question- I have not embedded the metadata from beaTunes. I should do
    this right away should I have to rebuild the database. Where does the
    metadata go? Do I specify this?

    Hey Wayne,

    I can recover from my backup, is this a proper Wayne to recover the data?

    The beaTunes database resides in /Users/BembeMBP/Library/Application Support/beaTunes/ If you have a backup, make sure beaTunes is NOT running, hope that the backup was created while beaTunes was not running and restore that folder.

    I never had auto sync on.

    Good.

    I do manually sync every time I switch between iTunes and beaTunes

    This only makes sense when switching from iTunes to beaTunes, not the other way around.

    Yes.

    Not sure we understood each other.

    That's odd. If repair fails, the only way to get back to a working database is rebuild. In any case, if repair is necessary, it's not surprise that beaTunes is a pain to work with (low performance).

    Is there a Wayne to know if the repair was a success?

    If the repair succeeds, beaTunes simply starts running.

    After the repair of the beaTunes database, it runs much faster, the lag seems to be gone.

    Good.

    I was thinking the low RAM could be causing problems. After the repair things seem to run well so far.

    Probably not. You are already at 4GB. That's a lot.

    Seems repairing the database did the trick for most of my issues.

    Yes. That makes sense.

    Can you confirm that I am good to go using beaTunes, that the error message is not important?

    Which error message?

    Question- I have not embedded the metadata from beaTunes. I should do this right away should I have to rebuild the database. Where does the
    metadata go? Do I specify this?

    It goes into ID3 tags and equivalent (for non mp3 formats). See https://blog.beatunes.com/2013/10/so-where-exactly-does-beatunes-st... I recommend keeping a backup of your audio files.

    Hope I didn't miss too many of your questions.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

    Thank you for getting back to so quick.

     I use Time Machine, I don’t pay attention when it runs, a good chance most
    of the backups beaTunes was open. I am sure beaTunes was open for backups
    after the repair. Is this a problem?

    About using online sources for analyzing, I understand you're advise. I
    said I would test, because my music has a very small audience, there might
    not be enough data online. Have to try to find out.

    Attached is the error message you asked about.

    Attached is the error message you asked about.

    Repair first backs up your database before attempting the actual repair. For some reason it was not able to do this ("AccessDenied").

    I assume you clicked "No"---if so, that was probably the right choice.

    Hi,

    I did click no. Restarted, the second time around the repair worked.

    I had success using my backup database, I am back in business.

    Thank you for your help, I really appreciate your efforts.
