I see a FAQ noting that cloud-based music cannot be analyzed due to DRM. Since I do not download music, but keep it on the cloud, it appears that I cannot analyze my iTunes music library. Is that correct?

Apple does not offer an API that allows third party tools like beaTunes to access your audio files "in the cloud". I guess they don't do a great job communicating that to their customers.

So yes, beaTunes cannot analyze tracks not located on your local hard drive.

But that you see nothing in the analysis pane is weird. Any chance you selected only a single track for analysis and then switched to the analysis view? If that's the case, the analysis was most likely already over before you got to the pane. Try selecting more tracks to analyze and you will see things happening in the analysis pane.

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/460906022018-09-16T18:57:44Z2018-09-16T18:57:47ZAnalysis of iCloud library fails.

I selected "Rebuild Database," restarted beaTunes, and then selected "Analyze all Songs" from the Tools menu. Nothing happened. I then selected all the songs, right-clicked on the selection and selected "Analyze," and then the analysis was attempted.

I now understand that analysis will not work on cloud-based songs. I did not know of that requirement when I purchased beaTunes last night, and since I do not want to download the songs, I cannot use beaTunes. Can I get a refund?

Andy Stewarttag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/460906022018-09-17T10:20:25Z2018-09-17T10:20:25ZAnalysis of iCloud library fails.

That is odd. Though—by default beaTunes filters out some tracks. This is definable in the analysis preferences.

I did not know of that requirement

Unfortunately, few people correctly understand the limitations of cloud-based libraries and Apple does nothing to educate them.

Of course!

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/460906022018-09-17T13:24:57Z2018-09-17T13:24:59ZAnalysis of iCloud library fails.

Thank you very much for your help

Andy Stewart
