Duplicates not deleting?

Hi, I've searched forums but haven't found a solution to this problem. I've analyzed & inspected my library, and now I am trying to delete duplicates. The process seems to work as it should (yes, I am committing the changes) but the files are NOT being removed from my drive, and a couple of minutes later Beatunes automatically re-imports the files and ask what I want to do with them. Thoughts? I just want to permanently delete the dupes. I have uploaded my log. Thanks.

    Hey Scott,

thanks for asking—I checked out your logs and I believe this is an issue that is solved in the current dev snapshot. If you'd like to try it out, please download it from https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-0-7-SNAPSHOT-x64.exe Before you run the installer, make sure that beaTunes is not running.

Also, please note that the snapshot contains some other changes. I.e. it will update your internal database when you run it for the first time.

Please let me know, if this fixes the issue.

Thank you and have a great 2018!

I am having similar issues than scott.rojumail (identified duplicates were not getting deleted from hard drive). I installed vresion 5.0.7 (SNAPSHOT), but it did not solve my problem.
    1. Upon inpsection of my 25,000 mp3 library, it no longer finds a duplicate (I have at least 1,000 identified in prior version of Beatunes). it found lots of other issues.
    2. I manually found a file to delete from library. While Beatunes removed it from Beatunes library, the file is still in itunes library and hard drive.

    Help!

Nick - the solution in the snapshot is specific to Windows and a folder-based library. Does that apply to your system/collection as well?

Nick - just noticed your logs. Have you synchronized lately? What you describe sounds more like an out of sync library, than a deletion issue. Or, alternatively, your network drive M:\ may not be properly mounted?

Hendrik - Thanks for your prompt response.

    1. I am using windows 10 and library is on a Synology network drive which is mounted (as M:)
    2. I synchronized again and Beatunes was able to identify the 1000+ duplicates I have.

I'm still having issues with deleting songs. They will delete from beatues & itunes, but the files remain on hard drive. If I delete from itunes, the files are removed from hard drive.

    I uploaded copy of log

I'm trying to find this in your logs. So far I have been able to identify only two cases:

    1. M:\iTunes\Music\Gala\Club Sounds Vol. 2\207 Freed from desire.mp3
    2. M:\iTunes\Music\New Order\Retro - Fan CD2\01 Elegia.mp3

In both cases iTunes returned null when asked for the filename and therefore beaTunes wasn't able to move the file to the thrash (the lookup in iTunes happens via id).

Do you use something like Apple Music or iTunes Match? Is it possible that iTunes believes the files are only in the cloud, but not on your hard drive, because you have started iTunes at some point with your network drive disconnected?

With these two files removed manually, can you still reproduce the issue?

(BTW - this has little to do with the original posters problem)

    Hello,

To your question: "Do you use something like Apple Music or iTunes Match? Is it possible that iTunes believes the files are only in the cloud, but not on your hard drive, because you have started iTunes at some point with your network drive disconnected?"

    No - I don't use either service.

    I ran another test:
    1. Restarted desktop
    2. Checked my network drive was connected. I did have to select it in explorer to reactivate the connection
    3. Opened itunes
    4. Opend Beatunes
    5. Ran duplicate inspection
    6. Tried to remove (delete) 3 duplicates from Beatunes.

    Results:
    1. removed from Beatunes
    2. removed reference in itunes
    3. files did not delete from hard drive

Do you have other ideas on what may be causing this?

I have added some more debug log statements to the latest dev snapshot. It's at https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-1-0-SNAPSHOT-x64.exe if you want to try it out. If you do, please upload your logs again afterwards.

This may not lead to anything, but hopefully it provides a little more information.

That all said, if you run this again, please check in iTunes whether the files all have a location (i.e. in iTunes' Song Info dialog, last tab, File) before you commit the solution.

    Thanks!

    Hi Hendrik,

Downloaded you latest update, synchronized and performed the same sequence (deleting duplicate). Same thing. I just uploaded the log as well. This problem seems to be isoldated to deleting from Hard Drive.. other changes to file see to work well (eg change album name).

Thanks for any assistamce you can offer.

    Hey Nick,

thanks for those logs. Based on your feedback, I have created a new snapshot. It's at https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-1-0-SNAPSHOT-x64.exe

If you're interested, please give it a shot.

    Thank you,

    Hey Hendrik,

Over weekend, I migrated music colection to USB 3 connected hard drive vs network (synology). Downloaded your latest snapshot and performed the duplicate deletion test. Still same issue. why won;t it delete duplicated from hard drive? Love your tool, but that was one of my ajor short term needs.. deleting my over 1000 duplicates.

Thanks for any help / fix you can provide,

    Nick

    Hey Nick,

I've spent some more time with this today. For some reason iTunes is simply not returning any file names for those files you want to delete. It's kinda odd.

Because beaTunes in theory still knows the file name, I have coded a workaround. If you want to try it out, it's in the latest snapshot https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-1-1-SNAPSHOT-x64.exe Hopefully this takes care of the issue once and for all.

    Cheers,
