I have a subset of albums that BeaTunes wants to change the artist to 'Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown'.

"wants to set"? What do you mean with that?

I did ‘Inspection’

Inspection shows ‘spelling issue’. It says there is 1 error, ‘Misspelled artist name’.

When I highlight the one error, BeaTunes shows me 857 songs that it says have errors.

Here is my problem: ALL of these songs say ‘Clarence Gatemouth Brown’ is the artist of the song. Many ARE by him, but many are not (the artist is someone other than him). How do I change each song to the correct name?

Thank you.

Joe Robinsontag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/433780372017-09-07T05:43:52Z2017-09-07T05:43:52ZBeaTunes assigning 'Artist' field from ???

Hey,

in inspection, issues regarding a misspelled artist names are only shown, if the multiple songs have very similar, but not identical artist names. I assume that's the case here, right?

Inspection isn't smart enough to somehow lookup the correct artist name, it just notices minor differences and offers to unify spellings.

What you apparently have, is completely mistagged songs. I.e. songs where not the spelling is wrong, but the whole tag. Inspection cannot fix this.

If your artist tags weren't wrong before you ran beaTunes, I suspect you ran an Analysis in which you asked beaTunes to replace or import artist names. Hopefully you didn't ask beaTunes to replace your existing artist or album tags!!!

You say, the error isn't in iTunes yet. That may not be completely true. More likely, the file is already changed, but iTunes hasn't noticed yet (start playing such a song in iTunes and it will re-read the tags).

As how to fix this, in inspection, you can always select the songs that are the songs that need to be changed. Inspections are always applied to only the selected songs (a subset of the 857 that you selected). However, inspection won't really completely change your tags.

You could try to open the
Get Info
dialog for a song that isn't by Clarence Gatemouth Brown, slightly change the name and wait for the reference lookup to suggest something else (accessible via right-click). But this will involve a lot of manual labor..
