1. If you experienced a crash or other abnormal behavior, please attach the log file 'beaTunes-logs-2017-07-29-080059.zip' by dragging it from your desktop onto the 'Attach File' button below.

2. Hello,

I'm seeing a lot of "Duration unavailable" and "Decibel values must be <=0" errors. Is there any way to resolve this? I uploaded logs, and attached some things. Thanks.

    Hey Scott,

    these are two independent issue.

Regarding the ReplayGain/Ebu 128 problem: can you please attach the file /Volumes/Media Server/iTunes Stuff/Music/The Quantic Soul Orchestra/Stampede/10 Take Your Time, Change Your Mind.mp3 to this discussion? I'd like to reproduce the problem to find a fix.

Regarding the Duration unavailable issue. It looks like the FFmpeg-based decoder got to your file before the CoreAudio-based decoder and guessed the wrong format. As a (hacky) workaround, please

    • Stop beaTunes
    • In Finder, right-click on beaTunes5
    • Select Show Package Contents
    • Navigate to Contents/Java
    • Rename ffsampledsp-java-0.9.19.jar to ffsampledsp-java-0.9.19.jar_unused
    • Start beaTunes
    • Re-analyze the files in question

As a negative side-effect of this hack you won't be able to analyze FLAC files anymore. But I'm guessing you're not doing that anyway.

    Cheers,

    -hendrik

Is this an issue with what I used to convert the FLAC file? I'm wondering if shouldn't tell the XLD devs?

The file you're requesting is 16.4 MB. The limit listed in the Attach File section says 10MB... I'll give it a shot...

No, this is nobody's but beaTunes' fault.

Thanks. I'll take a look at it once the weekend is over.

With that ffsampledsp hack from above, can you reproduce the EBU 128 problem? They might be connected after all...

    Hey Scott,

just wanted to check back with you. Did that ffsampledsp hack also solve the EBU 128 issue?

    Thank you,

I responded to this an I don't think it updated the post? Is there one waiting approval or something? Attached screenshots/logs and everything...

I don't know what the EBU error is you're referring to. The "hack" fixed about half of the files that wouldn't analyze. I'm still getting the decibel error.

I also got some sort of mpeg format error. I'll try attaching another screenshot.

The decibel error has to do with EBU, that's why I called it that. Guess that's still around, even with ffsampledsp disabled.

Regarding UnsupportedAudioFile -> how is the file encoded? Does it play properly? In beaTunes/in iTunes?

There was a previous one from 7/31 with a log file, if you're interested. I'm guessing it's "spam" too.

Hm. Couldn't find that one. Sorry.

If you still have the log file, please attach it again.
    Thanks!

Wild guess the "spam" issue is because I'm using a VPN. (PIA)

I've generated/attached another set of log files.

As for the MPEG song, you're correct. It does not play via iTunes/beaTunes. However, it's has Timbre and mood values from beaTunes4. (And some play counts, which I'm assuming are from my phone.) VLC plays it, if that tells you anything.

mpeg is is usually just a container for some other format/encoding. Any idea what the actual codec is? VLC might tell you in the stream info panel.

    Hey Scott,

About that decibel error. I believe it has to do with a resampling library.

    Could you please :

    • Stop beaTunes
    • In Finder, right-click on beaTunes5
    • Select Show Package Contents
    • Navigate to Contents/Java
    • Rename pcmsampledsp-0.9.3.jar to pcmsampledsp-0.9.3.jar_unused (or simply delete the file, just make sure the extension isn't .jar anymore)
    • Start beaTunes
    • Re-analyze the files in question

This is a hacky way of getting rid of said resampling library. When testing with the test file you sent, analysis was both faster and didn't lead to that error.

    Cheers,

    -hendrik

That change seems to break analysis. When I select files and hit Cmd+S, the Analysis window comes up. I hit enter, the window closes, nothing happens.

I take that back... It's doing /something/, it just doesn't display it.
The CPU usage goes up for a while and the app becomes unresponsive. The
second time attempting an analysis locked up the program and I wound up
    just having to force quit.

Logs from the above should be uploaded, but I'm assuming blocked as spam.

Opening again and attempting analysis seems to have worked. I received
    /less/ decibel errors.

I'll upload logs again after the analysis finishes.

    Hey Scott,

I think I got to the bottom of the decibel issue. Can you please download and install https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-5-0-4-SNAPSHOT.dmg ?

You may still have to re-apply the hack from http://help.beatunes.com/discussions/problems/46544-analysis-errors... to work around duration unavailable issues.

    Thanks,

    Hey Scott,

I have finally heard back from Tender (who runs this forum's server). Here's what they have to say why your posts are classified as spam:

the user's IP address is listed in project honeypot's IP block list. that means their machine has been used recently to make automated spam on other forums recently. Maybe they're using a VPN? It seems that IP has been attempted to be removed but keeps offending. So either your user is a comment spammer on other forums, or they're on a really bad ISP. Either way, the amount of spam that gets blocked from this service is very significant for us so we can't remove the block.

    here's the detail https://www.projecthoneypot.org/ip_196.52.39.25

I'd guessed/mentioned earlier that my VPN was probably the issue. (PIA
Private Internet Access) VPNs are only going to get more popular over
time. So just blocking them and shrugging shoulders really won't be a
    viable solution forever.

One of the latest solutions from other sites is to handle it via the
site's cookie. Allow VPN users if they have the cookie from signing in
previously /without /the VPN. So when they do come back while using the
VPN, the user is recognized, and allowed full use of the site.

Due to the increased legitimate use of VPNs, they should probably be
more upfront about it. I don't see any reason why blocked usage couldn't
be error-handled. (i.e. /Block the traffic and tell them why./)

Also, in this case... It's a little weird they're even letting the VPN
users sign up for an account in the first place. Block the traffic, or
don't. They've chosen some sort of bizarre middle ground that's just
    causing confusion.

    Thanks for your time.
