How much physical RAM does your computer have? 4GB?

Thanks,

because of your rather large music collection, beaTunes automatically increased some memory parameters and more or less hit a ceiling.

Can you please try the following:

If you have any really big programs running (like Photoshop), quit them.

Follow the instructions in this article.

Set the
BEATUNES_MEMORY
variable to
-Xmx1G
(higher than in the article)

Start beaTunes.

Before you do anything else, open beaTunes' general preferences and turn
Synchronize on window activation
off.

Then proceed to use beaTunes.

Does that work better?

Should beaTunes crash or should you need to restart beaTunes, the steps above will be reverted and you'll probably see the same crash again you have seen before. Right now, I just want to find out whether
2GB
is a big enough heap (memory) setting for you.

Thanks,

I have noticed the setting BEATUNES_MEMORY already as value 3072M. According to your instruction I have changed this to -Xmx1G. This unfortunately resulted in the attached error when restarting Beatunes and repair of the database failed.

Thanks for your support.

please answer
Yes
to that question.

And my apologies, I had meant to write
-Xmx2G
, not
-Xmx1G
.

The repair was triggered by the earlier crash—I'd forgotten about that. As stated above, please rebuild your database.

After the rebuild, please turn
Synchronize on window activation
off and check in the
About
dialog what the memory settings are. It should be less than
3072m
.

I'm rather surprised to be honest that you are running into the memory issues with 8GB.

Cheers,

No Problem, I have changed the setting to -Xmx2G and started Beatunes. It now started syncronizing with the music library which I could not interrupt. After some time Beatunes unfortunately closed down again (without further actions from me, or me being able to change the setting you mentioned yet). When I now restart Beatunes another time I get the message that last time Beatunes has crashed.
I have added the crash report again. Hope this clarifies for you what is happening.

Thanks for your help,

I took another look at your logs file. It turns out your Page File size (swap space) is a little low. Swap space is the space on your hard drive, that the operating system uses to make up for low physical RAM. In the case of beaTunes this does not necessarily mean, the space is really used, it just needs to be possible to reserve the space. Please increase its size to at least twice your physical RAM, i.e. 16GB.

To do so, please follow tipps like https://www.geeksinphoenix.com/blog/post/2016/05/10/how-to-manage-w... There are other recipes available on the web.

Just out of curiosity, did you see messages saying something about low virtual memory? Any other messages regarding memory from the operating system?

Cheers,

Thanks, this seems to have done the trick. I now notice that Beatunes is now able to use 2.633 M memory and is now proceeding to analyze the songs that have not been analyzed yet.

BTW is there a way to select all not analyzed songs so they can be analyzed?

Thanks,

Great.

Assuming you have analyzed BPM, sort by BPM and then select the songs that don't have any. Then
File
->
Analyze
(or via the context menu). You could do the same with color or key.

That said, if you don't have beaTunes replace existing properties, beaTunes is smart enough to skip songs during analysis that have already been analyzed.

Cheers,
