Unfortunately, any changes made during analysis cannot easily be
undone.

Any idea what exactly you did and what analysis settings you
used?

apologies for the delay in getting back to you, been a busy
start to the
week. I have everything backed up so I'm not too concerned, as I
can
rollback as necessary.

In the Analysis I had the following turned on:

If it is easy for you to determine which of these is likely to
have caused
the problem, I'd be keen to know. I also ran an Inspection and made
a lot
changes there, but I am 99% certain the file names were still ok
following
the Inspection and that it was the Analysis that did it.

Kind regards,

Nick

this really surprises me, as the one option that could lead to
Chinese chars is "Import metadata from online sources" and that's
the one you haven't checked.

Any chance you have also used some other software?

Cheers,

-hendrik

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/405336262016-08-16T16:49:57Z2016-08-16T16:49:57ZFolders, file names and some tags changed to chinese!

Hi Hendrik,

I don't want to send you on a wild goose chase - it's possible I
did have
that checked at some point as I was playing around with the
Analysis tool
earlier on. I'll know not to use it in the future!

I haven't been using any other software.

Kind regards,

Nicholas Ordtag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/405336262016-08-17T12:21:39Z2016-08-17T12:21:39ZFolders, file names and some tags changed to chinese!

Hey Nick,

Alright, then we'll leave it at that for now.

-hendrik

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/405336262016-09-02T06:50:00Z2016-09-02T06:50:01ZFolders, file names and some tags changed to chinese!

Hi Hendrik,

I thought you'd be interested to know that following a restore,
I had
another go at sorting out my files and only ran the inspection, not
the
analysis. Interestingly, when I ran the inspection, I only
committed
around 900 changes - all embedding images, but around 3000 files
were
updated, including changing some file attributes (titles, album,
etc) into
Chinese as well as folder and file names.

I then tried doing an analysis too, and that also changed
file
attributes/names into Chinese, so pretty much any action I take
results in
this problem. When doing the analysis I had only the BPM
checkboxes
ticked, nothing else.

If there's any kind of log I can send you, please let me know
how,
otherwise do with this information what you will :-)

Kind regards,

Nicholas Ordtag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/405336262016-09-02T07:02:10Z2016-09-02T07:02:10ZFolders, file names and some tags changed to chinese!

Hey Nick,

that all sounds very strange.

Thank you,

well that was easy! Best logging function I've seen in a long
time :-)

I've sent the logs to you, so hopefully there is something in
there that
may explain what I'm seeing. Really sorry for all this hassle, I
expect it
is something I am doing wrong, but I can't for the life of me
figure out
what!

Kind regards,

Nicholas Ordtag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/405336262016-09-02T08:29:14Z2016-09-02T08:29:14ZFolders, file names and some tags changed to chinese!

Hey Nicholas,

Got the logs. I can see that there are asian characters, e.g. in
the file
D:\Dropbox (Red Hot Yoga)\Music\iTunes\iTunes
Music\Soundgarden\Songs From The Superunknown\01
Superunknown.mp3
. Any chance you can send me that file? I'd
like to see what's in there.

In iTunes, do the asian characters appear as well?

As many files seem to contain the same "asian" characters, it's
also possible that it's not asian at all, but simply garbage that
is interpreted as asian.

Also, embedding the artwork seems not to have worked so well. I
can see a bunch of COM exceptions ("The RPC server is
unavailable."). Have you seen those in the beaTunes UI? This
happens, when beaTunes cannot talk to iTunes (on Windows), because
of some communication failure. It may help, to restart the
computer.

Thanks,
