<p>I'm sorry you had such a bad experience, but your data is not
fucked up beyond repair.</p>
<p>Most likely, the numbers you are seeing are ID3 genre numbers
(see <a href="http://id3.org/id3v2.3.0#Appendix_A_-_Genre_List_from_ID3v1">http://id3.org/id3v2.3.0#Appendix_A_-_Genre_List_from_ID3v1</a>
for reference). 17 would be Rock.</p>
<p>Do other programs also show the numbers, or just beaTunes?</p>
<p>To repair, please let me know, which analysis tasks you <em>did
run</em>. A simple way to do this is to select a song and click on
<code>File</code> -> <code>Analyze</code>. Then the <em>Analysis
Options</em> dialog is shown with the options you chose the last
time you ran an analysis. Please send a screenshot of those
options.</p>
<p>I suspect the issue has something to do with having both id3v1
and id3v2 tags in your files. Can you please send one of those
files (e.g. 'Wild Honey Pie' by The Beatles)? I'd love to look at
what's in the tags, so that I can come up with a strategy to repair
what's damaged.</p>
<p>I'm confident, we'll get this fixed.</p>
