I'm sorry, but I can only look into this, with a very specific
problem description.
Like: "Last.FM tags could not be fetched for song named
EXACT_TITLE, by EXACT_ARTIST" plus the
corresponding logs files. Other wise, I have no way of identifying
a failure.

Please keep in mind, that even if tags are fetched, it does not
guarantee that they represent some emotion.

Thank you,

just the one song:
Artist=The Church
Title=You're Still Beautiful

Same errors, and uploaded the logs just now.

I did confirm that this specific song has tags in last.fm. I
agree that mood might not be indicated, but shouldn't tags still be
imported to the BeatTunes database?

benjamin_mosertag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/366788172015-04-27T07:10:45Z2015-04-27T07:10:45ZTags not fetched for songs that do have last.fm tags available

Hey Benjamin,

thanks for the logs and the exact title.
Can you do the following, please?

Stop beaTunes

Go to
C:\Users\Ben\AppData\Local\tagtraum
industries\beaTunes\
and delete the directory

caches

Download and install
https://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-4-0-23-SNAPSHOT-x86_64-w...

Start beaTunes and run the LastFM task for You're Still
Beautiful by The Church again.

Let me know, whether you see a difference.

Send me a fresh set of logs.

Thank you!

let's give this another try.

Please make sure you delete the
caches
folder
before starting beaTunes. Here's the 32bit download link:

I think I have finally found the issue.

The album artist on that song is "The Church - Gold
Afternoon Fix". Using this mislabeled album artist, the
lookup failed.

The field album artist is the artist responsible for
the whole album. It is not meant to be a combination or
concatenation of album and artist. That way one
can have an album by one artist (the album artist) and for
individual songs, one can declare "Artist featuring XYY" as the
artist.

Because lookups with "Artist feat. XYZ" notoriously fail,
beaTunes always uses the album artist, when present. Fixing your
album artists to just contain the artist's name should solve the
problem.

Cheers,

-hendrik

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/366788172015-04-30T11:26:05Z2015-04-30T11:26:05ZTags not fetched for songs that do have last.fm tags available

Thank you for identifying the problem. Here is what I did: In
BT, I sorted for missing comments having "lastfm:" string. This I
made a playlist. Then in Itunes, I cleared "Album Artist." Back in
BT, I did "analyze" and told it to import Album Artist. Result: of
a total of 2503 records, 313 now have Comment="lastfm:" ... Many
now have Mood set (I understand that this is a function of what is
in the tags, and not all songs are going to have a Mood
assigned.)

As you said, a lot of the AlbumArtist fields import with "bad"
names. Many of these are "Varios Artists" so that won't help your
lookup either :(

Agree the easiest is to manually fix these. I will try Itunes or
MP3Tag or ... ?

Thank you for workng on this issue.

benjamin_mosertag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/366788172015-04-30T13:21:47Z2015-04-30T13:21:47ZTags not fetched for songs that do have last.fm tags available

Back in BT, I did "analyze" and told it to import Album
Artist.

Clearing out bad album artists, synchronize, and then
run the "Missing Album Artist" inspection will lead to much better
results than importing stuff from the online database via
analysis

If the artist field is identical for all tracks in the
album, the album artist should be empty anyway, as it does
not contribute any information. If the album artist field
is indeed empty, beaTunes will default to the artist name
when looking up Last.FM tags.

Hope this helps,

-hendrik

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/366788172015-05-01T17:43:26Z2015-05-01T17:43:26ZTags not fetched for songs that do have last.fm tags available

I have not tried your exact suggestion above, but something
similar that is working very well, at least at first:

In itunes I made a "playlist" of the files that do NOT have
comment field that begins with "lastfm:". Using this playlist I
then...

Used the wonderful app "Mp3tag" (also a fine German product I
think!) and imported the above playlist. I used the option to
remove tags: I told it remove Albumartist; comment for the files in
the playlist (around 27K of them!)

In itunes, I deleted the old database (but kept files). Then I
"added folder" of my usual library. When this is done, I re-ran
BeatTunes as if from scratch (I deleted the old database, cache and
logs) and let it do a Syncronize.

Then using the "No Last fm" playlist, I have told it to
"Analyze" but only to import the Last.FM tags (and, I guess to
specifiy MOOD if available).

It is too early to tell if no problems will arise (run will take
1-2 days, at least many hours...) but clearly I am getting many
more Last:FM "comments" and I guess, tags that may work for the
MOOD code.

I may try to update "album artist" later but only after I've
made a good backup of my library/databases.

Thank you for helping to isolate what is not really a BeatTunes
issue: the quality of downloaded tags meta-data .. may not be
always good.

benjamin_mosertag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/366788172015-05-02T07:18:06Z2015-05-02T07:18:06ZTags not fetched for songs that do have last.fm tags available

This sounds like a workable approach.

Just one remark:

When you delete the iTunes database, you effectively delete the
persistent ids iTunes assigned to your songs. Those are needed for
the connection between iTunes and beaTunes. So deleting those
means, you loose all data that is not stored in the files
themselves, like color and key (unless you turned embedding on in
the general prefs).

It sounds like you don't much care about this, since you were
happy to basically start from scratch.

Cheers,

-hendrik

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/366788172015-05-05T12:29:47Z2015-05-05T12:29:47ZTags not fetched for songs that do have last.fm tags available

Guten tag! I have run my whole song database through Analyze and
now "Comments" field has lastfm: ( + Tags) for a great many songs.
Of course, I know that Last.FM will not every song on file, like my
nature recording of Owl farts (Kidding!). I declare this problem
fixed. Thank you!

Re deleting the Itunes database: I routinely do store the
BeatTunes tags in the individual files so I can recover the
information using (uh...) syncronize? Also I routinely delete the
database and re-import everything. My library is a mess :)

benjamin_mosertag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/366788172015-05-07T07:10:33Z2015-05-07T07:10:33ZTags not fetched for songs that do have last.fm tags available

Cool - I'll close this discussion then.
