Sorry you are having such a bad experience.

Let me try to explain how the program was designed for your
use-case.
First of all, Windows 7 should not be a problem, 64-bit is a good
thing, and iTunes is not necessary for this to work well.

That said, to determine key without iTunes, this is
what you should do:

Create a directory-based library for a folder that contains
your audio files via the
File
menu

Analyze your files

Make Serato import the new metadata from your files. To do so,
use the "Rescan ID3 Tags"-button in the files panel.

Now if you want to add files to the beaTunes library, there are
two ways to do this:

Simply move the new files into the folder the library is based
on or one of its sub-folders. Then choose
Synchronize

from the beaTunes
File
menu. The new files should
appear.

Drag the new files into beaTunes. This may create a copy of
those files—perhaps not what you want.

What I am wondering is:

Which file format are your files in? MP3? Something else?

How many files do you have?

Which exact version of beaTunes are you using?

Which analysis settings are you using (the dialog that pops up
after you hit
Analyze
)?

A badly flickering display can indicate a broken internal
database. I would love to take a look at your logs.
This article explains where to find them and how to send them.
Perhaps something is really wrong and can be fixed.

Hope this helps,

I will try out all of the steps you outlined above. (Can't try
it out at this very moment due to work)

To answer your questions:

I am using primarily MP3s with some FLACs

I have a lot of files. Close to 500GB of music. I will get you
a file count

I am using beaTunes 4.0.7 as of yesterday. 4.0.3 prior to
that

I will get a screenshot of my Analyze settings for you

I'll get you the logs you requested. Regarding a broken
database: I did completely rebuild my database from scratch a few
weeks ago as a troubleshooting step

Formicatag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/345862302014-09-16T18:30:28Z2014-09-16T18:30:29ZProblems when you're not the target market

Well, I don't know exactly what I did differently, but I
followed your instructions and suddenly, there's my keys without
iTunes. Hooray!

I started completely from scratch:

Remove beaTunes

Remove tagtraum directory from AppData\Local

Install beaTunes 4.0.7 windows x64

New library from file system (D:\music)

Allow beaTunes to synch/build the new library

After I did that, I analyzed some files I knew had not been
touched and dragged them into Serato. The keys all showed up
without even having to rescan ID3 tags.

I wish I knew what the change was, but at least now I know how
to make it work in the future. Hooray I can remove iTunes!

Also, thank you for the tip regarding file system libraries. To
confirm, I just drag new music into the specified directory and
"Synchronize", which in this case means "rescan the target file
system for changes", correct?

I have attached the following:

Logs

Screenshot of Analyze settings

Screenshot from first startup that clearly shows display
problem

Thank you again,

I'll get back to you in more detail tomorrow.

Just one thing:
I would recommend turning "Use online resources" off for better
results.

hendriktag:help.beatunes.com,2009-07-24:Comment/345862302014-09-30T13:20:40Z2014-09-30T13:20:40ZProblems when you're not the target market

Hey Josh,

I have a lead
regarding the display problems you encountered. But to make some
progress on this, I would need some additional input.

can you please place the attached two files named

NewJFrame.class
and
NewJFrame$1.class

into the folder
C:\Program
Files\beaTunes4\jre\bin
.

then open a command shell, e.g. by clicking on the Windows
Start button and then entering
cmd
into the search
field.

in the command shell, please enter
set
J2D_TRACE_LEVEL=3

then please change to the directory you just placed the files
into by typing
cd C:\Program
Files\beaTunes4\jre\bin

then enter:
java NewJFrame

An new window should appear and in the shell some output should
show up (e.g. see attached screenshot). Please copy the output and
send it to me.

Also, in the new Window (a non-functional demo), do you see the
same issue you reported for beaTunes? I.e. some text disappearing
when you move over it with a mouse?

Please close the window and then enter:
java
-Dsun.java2d.d3d=false NewJFrame
into the shell window.
In the new window - do you still see the issue?

If in the second try the problem was gone, please

open the folder
C:\Program Files\beaTunes4
with
the Windows File Explorer and then open the file

beaTunes4.l4j.ini
(or
beaTunes4.l4j
) with
Notepad.

at the end of the file, please add a new line

-Dsun.java2d.d3d=false

Thank you very much for your help with this!

Any chance you could try this out?
Are the instructions to convoluted?

I would really love to make some progress on the issue.

Thank you!

hendrik
