Something wrong with "New Matchlist"
I detect two problems with this feature:
-
I chose "New Matchlist", select a rule set and the option "And all of the following filters". After I select "Genre" + "contains" it appears three dots in the right column of the filter line. If I type in the first letters of an existing genre the matched genre will be displayed. This is okay, but it is ONLY AT THE FIRST TIME after creating a new fiter line. If I create a second, third or xxx matchlist, the filter line looks like the first time, but if I type in the first letters of an existing genre once again, it doesn't appear anything. And that's not the worst: If I type in the complete genre and click "OK", the new generated matchlist shows also titles from another genres!
-
In previous versions of beaTunes the genre selected at the first new matchlist call was displayed at all following new matchlist calls, Now, after every new matchlist call it appears the three dots - with the problems described before.

Last but not least, please let me know, whether you are using beaTunes with or without iTunes.

Hi Roland,
I can't reproduce the problem. What exactly did you specify in the filter dialog? Can you please send a screenshot?
Thank you!

Okay, here a little photo story...
Image 1: First call of "New Matchlist" after starting beaTunes and defining the filter
rule "Genre" + "contains". The three red dots in the right column indicate, that the
system is waiting for an input of a genre. All is right.
Image 2: After the input of two letters ("L" and "o") the systems completes the genre to "Lounge". All is right.
Image 3: The resulting playlist after pressing "OK" in the previous screen. It contains several songs with "Lounge" in genre. All is right.
Image 4: Second call of "New Matchlist" after the steps described before. It looks like the dialouge in image 1. That is not right, because in previous versions of beaTunes it was shown the last selected genre instead of the three dots.
Image 5: After the input of some letters (in this case "L", "o" and "u") the system don't complete the genre. That ist not right.
Image 6: Manually typed in the genre "Lounge Background".
Image 7: The resulting playlist after pressing "OK" in the previous screen. It contains some songs with "Lounge Background" in genre, but also songs with "Lounge" and an other extension. That ist not right, and because it is the same arrangement like the first playlist, it seems, that the system takes the previous selection ("Lounge").

Hi Roland,
thanks for the detailed explanation of the problem.
I did some digging and some coding and I believe I have figured out what went wrong and fixed it.
Could you please take a look at the current dev snapshot: http://www.beatunes.com/download/beaTunes-3-5-13-SNAPSHOT-jre-win.exe - does it solve the problem?
Thank you,
-hendrik

Great! Every time an excellent support - thank you!
I did download the file, but if I try to install it, I get the following message:
The version of this file is not compatible with the running Windows version. Open the system information of the computer to check, if x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of this software is needed.
In my system information I saw, that the Java version was 32 bit. So, I did install the 64 bit version of Java - unfortunately with the same result.

Hi,
do you run a virus scanner? Perhaps Norton? So far, every time a user reported this error, it's been the virus scanner's fault. Did yours perhaps spit out any messages?

Hm, yes, there is running a virus scanner and, yes, it is Norton (Internet Security), but it gives no messages and I don't have any problems so far. Is the SNAPSHOT different from normal beaTunes?
Support Staff 8 Posted by hendrik on May 02, 2013 @ 07:36 AM
No, it's not.
Perhaps it messed up the file during download?

Okay, so I will download it again via another network to another computer, transfer it and try to install it again (todays evening in my time zone Germany).

Cool.

Bingo - total!
It was the download: Both downloaded files do have the same name and the same size, but the new downloaded one was able to run and install the snapshot. By the way: I got the new download in the same way like all previous downloads of beaTunes (desktop computer / cable dsl) and the not running one in a different way (notebook / mobile 3G).
The matchlist functions like in the past :-)
Playlists created by the matchlist feature are named "unnamed". I do remember, this was also so in previous versions of beaTunes, but not in the 3.5.12.
Finally two questions:
Is it possible, to get the last used rule set as default after calling "New Matchlist"? At the moment the default rule set is the last defined in the settings area, independent of the selection in a previous call of "New Matchlist".
Is it possible, to change the input area of the filters into not case sensitive? At the moment the input of "lounge" do not match the genre "Lounge".

Hi Roland,
I wish I could explain exactly what's going on with the 32bit/64bit/virusscanner problem... Anyhow, you got it to work.
Regarding your two suggestions:
1) That is possible - it makes sense and will be in the next release.
2) That also makes sense, but has UI ramifications that are beyond a minor update. So perhaps this comes in some future version, but not any time soon.
Cheers,
-hendrik

And - my big old wish - maybe there is an opportunity to integrate the new matchlist option in the context menu...

It'll be in 3.5.13.
