if you are simply using a file-based beaTunes library, initial
ratings are imported from the files' id3 tags.
Only if you analyze them and choose to import ratings (from online
sources), they are imported from our database. Note that this not a
human edited database, but an average of ratings submitted by
users.

Hope this helps,

I used the analyze feature and imported the ratings. I thought
it was probably from user input. Do you know of any way to import
or display the iTunes store "popularity" ratings into your iTunes
library display? To me, this would be the best way to automatically
"rate" a large song collection quickly using a pretty extensive
sampling of users.

Thanks again,
