JVM out of memory error

Hi,

I am currently evaluating Beatunes 2.1.12, and it looks promising, but I don't feel convinced to buy it yet for two reasons.

1) When is version 3 planned? I don't want to buy version 2 now and find that version 3 is released in the next few months.
2) Numerous JVM errors despite running my system exclusively for Beatunes to get through the Analysis quicker.
My system: Windows 7 x64, AMD Phenom II x4 965 3.4GHz, 4GB Ram, latest Java RTE x32 and x64

I included the log files relating to the error.

Regards

    Hi Ludwig,

I wish I could say exactly when beaTunes 3 will come out. I'm working on it, but the list of todos is unfortunately still fairly long. Should it come out in the next month (highly unlikely), recent purchases would get a free update. Older purchases of beaTunes 2 will definitely get a discounted price (along the lines of $12 instead of $32) for beaTunes 3.

Do you actually see message boxes with JVM/OOMErrors? If so, please send me your complete logs - http://help.beatunes.com/faqs/troubleshooting/where-are-the-beatune... tells you where to find them. The system-error.log unfortunately doesn't contains too many useful things. What you see in there is just messages about attempts to allocate a certain kind of buffer, for which beaTunes has a fallback strategy.

    Hi Hendrik

    Thank you for your reply.
Yes indeed I get error message boxes frequently while running Analysis.
I have a bunch of log files but they are quite big in size, I think you
    don't
    want files bigger than 10MB?
Which specific ones are you after as there are quite a few in the 'log'
    folder?
Or shall I send them all? ( I will try and compress them as small as
    possible).

    Greets
    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

the files are at most 5MB each but compress really well when you zip the whole logs folder.

    Thanks,

    Hi Ludwig,

sorry for the late answer. To avoid the outofmemoryerrors, I'd recommend to reduce the number of parallel tasks from 4 to 2. There is a setting the beaTunes preferences (under the analysis tab), that let's you do that. It does require a beaTunes restart.

Alternatively/additionally you could grant Java more memory. In http://help.beatunes.com/discussions/questions/80-beatunes-memory-u... you can see how the heap size it set manually on Windows. In your case, I'd try to set the max heap size (Xmx) to 1000m and leave the initial heap size (Xms) the way it is.

    Hope this helps,

    -hendrik

PS: You can delete all those gc-... log files.
